"Something Crazy" - Part 4
More nights passed as Tatsuya continued to train, no matter what type of weather there was he was out there. He had lost count of how many nights he had been training. These last nights felt longer than usual to Tatsuya. He didn’t know why, but he thought it was because of anticipation. Perhaps the anticipation of moving onto the next portion of his training. Tatsuya’s last nights of training consisted of polishing his movements. Right now his movements were controlled, precise, and most of all, effortless. Tatsuya had also been relying less on his eyes. He could close his eyes for some movements, but needed them for others. His instincts were guiding his body and hands to where they were needed.
This was it, tonight was the night. Tatsuya had already learned how to properly stand. It was now time to learn how to walk. Tatsuya was finally going to implement offensive techniques into his training. Even when Tatsuya was making his way to the sparring grounds he was excited. The thought of getting that much closer to finishing his training was almost overwhelming. When he arrived on the grounds, like nights before it was empty, but tonight seemed different somehow. To Tatsuya it seemed more peaceful and serene. He looked up to the sky and noticed the full moon seemed closer to the earth and the stars where brightly shining. A beautiful night to train indeed.
Tatsuya quickly warmed up in his usual manner and prepared for a productive night. Because Tatsuya was adept in zanjutsu he felt that the blending between techniques should be practically seamless. Tatsuya brought his wooden sword up with his right hand and proceeded to swing it from his upper right to lower left and then from upper left to lower right. As the sword came to his right side he threw in the air and spun it in a counter clockwise direction and jumped turning to his right. Tatsuya then caught it with his left hand in a reverse grip and proceeded with a 60 degree downward slash to his right. Tatsuya didn’t stop there however, like a steady stream he brought his sword back at a horizontal slash from his right.
Just as the technique seamed to finish Tatsuya spun the sword in a clockwise motion and retrieved it with his right hand in a traditional grip. He once again slashed horizontally and then instantly threw it high into the air in a counter clockwise spin. Tatsuya leaped after the sword and with no visible effort caught it while still continuing upward. He then went down with a dead vertical strike. If you thought that when he landed it was over, you were wrong. Just as he landed he threw his sword high into air behind him spinning clockwise and he jumped into a double back flip. Landing on the ground and skidding back, he reached for the air with his right hand and caught the sword.
After catching the sword, he jumped forward and swung it downward to his left with a two handed grip. Once he landed he released his right hand from the sword and with his left hand threw it behind his back to his right side. Just before his sword went beyond the reach of his right arm he caught it while keeping it perfectly parallel to the ground. Tatsuya let out a deep sigh, though it would’ve seemed that it was done perfectly, Tatsuya would disagree, but only because he had to look for his sword through most of his movements. A step back in his mind. In fact he was looking at where his blade was when he finished.
Tatsuya walked around the area he covered retracing his steps. He replayed the movements in his mind, finding where he looked at his sword and why. As the movements went through his mind he realized that he was either over or under throwing the sword. A flaw that would need to be fixed if he wanted the technique to be perfect. He wanted to keep his eyes fixed on his opponent at all times. Tatsuya worked his way back to the center of the field and prepared another set of moves in his mind. He stayed in one spot before suddenly darting forward. His mind was focused and no one would have been able to break his concentration. He was on the verge of creating “Something Crazy.”
