Philosophical Continuity (Kurounin Aisu - Shikai 2)

Kurama now met his zanpakuto's manifestation face to face in his inner world. High on the tops of craggy mountain peaks. This was where he and Korounin Aisu trained for long periods of time, learning from one another and strengthening their bond. It was now that Kurounin Aisu felt that Kurama was ready for the next step in his shikai ability.

“Out of need springs desire, and out of desire springs the energy and the will to win.”

"Yes master."

"What I am about to teach you will show you how to obtain the energy to continue even when you have already spent yourself."

Kurama began listening intently to his mentor and friend. Learning each new ability was a crucial step towards becoming one with this man in both mind and spirit.

"The name of this technique is Touketsu Reiki. It fuels your actions through your own determination and desires, your 'resolve' as some may call it. You'll begin to emit an aura that spreads throughout the area around you. Chilling the bones and freezing the air, cooling the area to the point that snow will begin to fall. As long as moisture remains present in your surroundings, your spiritual energy will slowly regenerate. Your techniques will have been replenished and as time passes, the power of this technique will grow."

Kurounin Aisu looked at Kurama to be sure he was understanding all that was being said. Kurama returned a thoughtful glance, his mind soaking in all that he was being taught and his ears tuned to only his master's words. Satisfied, Kurounin Aisu continued...

"You will have slight control of the snowfall, it will respond to your thoughts and emotions rather than your actions as the shards do. It's speed and size will increase with each passing moment, fueling itself as long as your life force continues to remain."

Kurama nodded, showing that he understood and was ready to try out the technique. He gripped his blade and pointed it towards his mentor. "Korounin Aisu!" His master closed his eyes and nodded to him. "Touketsu Reiki!"

From the sky came an extreme crackle as the clouds darkened and thunder sounded. Snow came falling down thicker than he'd expected, gusting as the blizzard came at him full force. He gathered the snow with his mind, he could feel himself growing more and more powerful with each passing second. He sent the flurries into a swirling vortex around his master, watching as they increased in speed. The man became nearly invisible as the white screen thickened...

"Aisu Shaddo!" Six dozen shards of ice appeared before him, twice the amount that normally materialized. He sent them towards the vortex, letting them fly wildly in and out of the storm. As each disappeared into the vortex, Kurama could feel them reappear beside him. He slowed the vortex to reveal that his master had destroyed each and every one of the shards without receiving injury. He returned his blade to its sheath and calmed the storm around him. "Very good my young friend. Now go, I feel you are needed elsewhere..."

Call out phrase: Bow before the Frozen Sage!, Kurounin Aisu!

Description of released form: Kurounin Aisu transforms from its standard katana form to a nodachi or, what some refer to it as, a large nihontō. The blade shimmers a light blue and is cold to the touch. One would normally find holding such a freezing cold blade to be painful after about a minute or so but the icy tinge is not felt by the owner. The symbols "すべては氷である" are engraved on either side of the blade.

Abilities:

Ability 1: Aisu Shaddo (Rank 3 Required)

Description of ability: This is Kurounin Aisu's "Ice Barrage" technique. The blade essentially shatters into three dozen long, thin shards of ice that can be controlled by his owner. There are basically two ways to use this technique, the first being obvious. A barrage of ice shards strike at the foe, easily destroyable though can be reformed for another attack depending on the amount of spiritual energy the wielder has remaining. The second is a simple wall of ice, able to block low-leveled kidos and small energy attacks. It increases in power as the user grows in skill with the technique.

Ability 2: Touketsu Reiki (Rank 4 Required)

Description of ability: This is Kurounin Aisu's "Frozen Aura" technique. The area around Kurama begins to decrease severely in temperature. In a moist environment, it will begin to snow. As time passes, the snow will increase in downfall speed and thickness. Kurama can control the snow merely by thinking about it, not requiring verbal or somatic guidance. As long as there is moisture in the air, Kurama's spiritual energy slowly regenerates, allowing for his shikai to fuel itself. This will also increase the number of ice shards that appear as time passes.
