Personality: Kininata is a guardian by nature; while he does feel a sense of duty and loyalty to those he stands by, fights and works with, he will sacrifice those things if it is necessary to protect the greater moral good, to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and to destroy that which threatens the peace. He is a judge, looking at the situation at hand and evaluating how best to deal with those who are disrupting the peace, who are against ensuring the moral good is upheld. He is a kind hearted man, he laughs and smiles like all the others around him, showing compassion and consideration to those who seek comfort and advice. He is strategic, he thinks before he leaps into any problem before him, analysing and accessing before making any action to ensure he can win - and to him, survival is a win just as much as defeating the enemy.

Appearance:

Kininata stands tall, his body of an average mesomorphic build (naturally muscular). His skin has a slight brown tan naturally, but his most noticable features are his eyes and his hair. the color of his eyes is pure jade, with absolutely no variation in pigmentation; his hair is of crimson red, its length running three quarter lenth down his back and tied into three separate pony tails.


Sealed Zanpakutō :

Kininata's Zanpakutō is of a standard katana's length, width and depth. The grip has a deep blue wrap around what appears to be a mahogany handle, showing a slight amount of the wooden material itself. The pommel of the hilt has a small sphere, approximately one-and-a-half inches in diameter, with a single pale blue tassle dangling four inches down; the sphere seems to have a constantly swirling blue liquid inside of it. The guard is a plain flat disc of turquoise, with the phrase "The Rain Shall Heal and Cleanse" marked on the underside where the grip is. The blade itself has a natural steel-blue tinge to its coloration and the slightest shimmer in sunlight. the sheath is jet black, smooth as bone.

History/Background:

Life on earth, still imparted in his mind, was not pleasant; he had been forced to grow in squalor after his parents were both killed when he was four years old, forced to survive under the care of at least a dozen different temporary "parent" families - none of whom wanted him around nor cared for him the way that his true parents did. he could barely remember them except for the soothing voice of his mother and the authoritative voice of his father; occasionally he could see the face of his mother in his dreams, but they were vague, faded images at the best of times. As he grew up, he learned how to defend himself, more through watching for the right time to act and react than simply acting on instinct; he developed his own sense of morals while living his early life on earth.

Up to the week before his death, he had developed a small reputation as a young man who did his best to take care of orphans like himself, teaching them how to take care of themselves in a world where there were too few people to do so properly - he taught them how to fight, how to think, how to look at the world, as best as he could. In the days leading to his death he stopped the mugging of one of his "children" by robbers, resulting in the death of one of the attackers; their retribution came swiftly afterwards, five on one. He was sliced to pieces in an alley away from the crowds, left for dead.

His memories of the moments of his death and those that came shortly afterwards have always been blurred, but he awakened in the world of Soul Society, in a place not too different from where he had grown up; the people here were not too different from those who he had to contend with back on earth, and within days of arriving returned to a similar role of guardian to all those newcomers who would arrive from the material world, offering guidance and protection as best as he could.

Then, in his dreams, he heard a voice... one like his mothers, yet more vivid, more clear. In those same dreams, he saw the coast line off where his home was, seeing a split sky; one of calm resolve, of that light misty rain that kept you cool and calm but did not ruin the brightness of the day, and one side of violent torrents of rainfall, tearing apart anything in its path. For some days he heard that voice, and on waking up regularly found water around him, though from no source he could discern.

He talked with some of the locals about those dreams and events, and one of them mentioned that he might be hearing the inner voice of a spirit within him. On further investigation, he found out that similar things happened to one group of people... Shinigami. He observed those who entered the slum area, seeing and occasionally feeling their power, and thought that perhaps they could help him realise what was going on within him. So, he headed away from his current life to enroll at the academy for the Shinigami and see where his life would take him from that point on.

Kininata opened the rickety window of his slum home, staring out into the streets of his district below, and towards the horizon. He could just see the pale red glow as the sun started to rise before his very eyes, and he moved to sit himself on the windowsill in comfort so that his jade eyes could watch another glorious sunrise. He had missed watching the ones that came in his former life, if anything because he missed those children he once cared for. In the last years since he had been in this world, he had seen one of them since... Karitsu, who would now be entering his first whole year in this place, and was one of his more mentally astute pupils. The pair had met in the most unlikely of situations - people trying to mug him for what he possessed, only to find themselves being taken down by a seemingly twelve year old boy. That meeting was one both of sadness and joy, because it revealed that he had died at such a young age, and that he would be forever young here.

He saw the edge of the sun creep over the hills and plainlands before him, and watch as the curtain of shadows that had hidden the landscape retreated nearly instantly to reveal a bright world beneath his feet again. He watched this because it made him feel more alive first thing in the morning, and today would be the last time he would see it from this building. Today he would make his way inwards, towards the academy for the Shinigami. He would learn about the voice within his mind and his dreams, and see what the fates had install for him in this world of spirits, magic and the warrior way... and to see if a man such as himself could exist in such a world.
