Entices of hunger

Hunger. The maddening sensation was upon him again. He always felt the urge, always there at the back of his mid, yet there were times it would become so strong it hurt. This was one of those such times, and was sliding over the white sands of the deserts of Hueco Mundo searching. His mask continuously faced forward, never moving an inch as he sped along. The suddenly, his dull red eyes were drawn to the side, as the masked face of Medrus turned to looked to his left side. There the form of something seemed to be moving around. Stopping in and instant, he watched what he could of the form, it was small, just smaller than himself. An instant later he slip towards its direction, his hunger urging him onwards.

The form was gone when he had reached where he had seen it. It had disappeared from his view when he had slid into a dip in the sands, and had somehow vanished when he had risen up the other side. An cool anger directed at himself rose, anger for letting the thing out of his vision. It seemed that the hunger also wished to punish him, as he stood there he felt the hunger pangs. Glowering to himself, he slowly turned his head ready to turn to head off when a mound of white sand erupted near to him. Turning his head quickly he saw the form of the smaller hollow appear suddenly, and then just as quickly, disappear back into the ground. Medrus looked at the spot for a few moments more, a sense of relief filled him, his hunger settled.

After watching the area for a few minutes more, the eruption happened again and the smaller hollow emerged once again. This time its faced him, and it took a few steps before it seemed to notice him and burrow underground once more. Well, the creature seemed to use the sands for protection, he though idly. Looking around at the ground around himself, he also took notice that his black form was also not that hard to stand out either. He looked back to the dip in the sands, and slowly slid back to the location.

He had waited a few more minutes there, his form pressed against the sands, with only a bit of his mask over the sand line. The he saw it again, the eruption. He tensed his form, the hollow was fast, but he did not wish it to disappear straight away. The form of the smaller hollow emerged, looked around and then began to move around the surface again. Medrus had his body well tensed now, and waited a moment longer, there, the hollow faced his back towards him. In that instant he flew up the dip and pounced on the hollow which noticed too late. It has started to burrow but Medrus had reached it first, his form covering the small hollow and starting a much awaited feast.

The dead trees proved little interest for Medrus as he made his way though them. Compared to some parts of the desert this grouping of them was quite a few in number, fifty, perhaps even around a hundred of them. This sight stood out in the land, yet despite their number there was nothing else special to do with them. No, the hollow was more interested in wandering through the desert feeling oddly sated for once. Then he felt the presence. There was another hollow, it had somehow hid its pressure till now, or perhaps he was more detached than normal. Even so, the hollow stopped and swept his view around him, looking through the white trees.

In almost an instant he caught sight of the other hollow. It seemed long and feline, it was bounding from tree to tree, using the force of its jump to further speed it towards it way to him. Medrus did not want to fight, from the look of the hollow and its long claws on its paws, it seemed that he was more than outclassed is a physical battle broke out. Instead, the hollow began to speedily make his way through the trees, slithering fast across the white sand of its ground.

Despite his attempts to flee the creature, he found that it had caught him up, and that second it seemed to land on the tree in front of him. Its claws sank into the form of the tree as the feline hollow looked at him with hungry eyes. Medrus in his murky depths cursed the trees for restricting his speed, and saw the creature tense. In that moment it jumped at him, its claws held outwards ready to tackle him. Yet he was far from being a meal quite yet. Merely moving his form lower to the ground, forcing the other hollow to sail just above him and land on the ground behind.

Medrus took this simple bit of time to continue his run through the trees, and finally saw the edge of this dead woods and made for the open terrain. Turning his masked head he saw the other hollow jump on the nearest tree and follow him once more. But it was too late, his form fled out into the open sands. Even though, this did not stop the following hollow as it too jumped out into the sands after him.

However Medrus quickly noticed that the creature was slower now, it no longer followed him with the speed of before. He found himself moving faster in this open ground. From the glances that he kept taking of the beast, he noticed that ever so slightly it feet were not gaining as much hold on the sands that it had in the woods. He did not care of this fact as he slid over the white sands was as much ease as he always had.

It was not long before the other hollow seemed to give up on the hunt, and sulked back to the dead trees. On the nearest sand dune, he watched as the feline hollow enter the dead woods, jumping on to one of the trees and then pouncing on to another one. Its previous speed had returned to it once more oddly enough.

Despite the murkiness of his mind, Medrus caught himself noticing the differences. It seemed that the feet and legs of the feline hollow seemed more than adept in the woods, using the trees to its advantage. While they hindered him, for the creature, they acted like an extension of itself, a way to become a more powerful hunter. Yet in the open sands, its feet seemed to hinder it more. His solid form seemed to have the advantage there, especially with nothing to slow his progress, the white sands proving to be no trouble. The difference in physiology seemed to matter a great deal in a hunt it seemed, and these facts were brought home to Medrus like never before.

Yet now, after all that the hunger returned, and leaving his completed thoughts he slinked away.
