Shifting sand (Rai)

The wind howled like a beast across the vast desert of Hueco Mundo. It seemed fitting, this was a place of beast, the way so many died you would think the very ground had swallowed them up. But, no. It was the many beast that killed one another, not the barren desert. Nor did the dark sky swoop down and devour lost souls too unfortunate to hide from it's unblinking moon that hung as if painted on the infinite darkness. No this was just a desert and a dark sky neither more than they appeared. But both held their secrets; they hid the true monsters. Creatures that consumed any too weak to survive the harsh land. A place of madness and five figures moved slowly it's length. They were all wearing long thick cloaks. The color almost made them blend in with the sand underfoot. It was obvious they were not from this place, just things as clothing was rare. Even more rare was to have so many creatures working together. Such small forms would only belong to Arrancars or the fabled Vasto Lorde. Still beings of such power didn't need to hide their presence. They moved slowly never too far spaced apart. Occasionally raising their heads to the sky as if looking for something. Too cautious, and yet nothing ill had befallen them yet as they made their trek.
"We'll stop here and rest." Said the one in the middle of the strange progression. With the hood it was hard to tell if the speaker was male or female.
"Finally!"One let out a groan of exasperation and quickly flopped to the ground, as another quietly sat where the last step had been taken.
The rest remained standing one to the rear the other in front. They didn't talk, they only rested. Too much sound could bring unwanted attention. Attention was something the shinigami of the expeditionary force didn't want. The less the hollows knew of their current operation, the better.

The strange weather buffeted the cloaked group. At first they shielded their faces from the strong chilled wind. It was a welcome change at first, but they were more concerned about the source of said wind. It didn't take much skill to detect the awful power behind the sudden change. Arms still raised to block the sudden gale the other hands went to their waists. With the cloaks pulled back slightly one could see the dark garb they wore beneath the sand colored hoods. And also the weapons at their hips were now exposed to anyone to see. The one that had flopped to the ground now stood. The wind that hit him pushed his hood off his head, he covered his face and drew his weapon from the sheath. It was a young looking man with dark black hair cut very short. His dark green eyes gazed in the direction from wince the ill wind blew.
"This isn't good." he said stating the obvious to the others standing around him as the emerald eyes peered at them.
"Stay in formation." The initial speak shouted, the young man looked at her and put his weapon away. A thin hand pushed back the hood to reveal the speaker to be female. She had long brown hair and eyes that matched. A stern look locked on her face. There wasn't even the faintest hint of shock as the hollow spoke to them. This wasn't the first time she had encountered an 'intelligent' hollow. And she prayed it wouldn't be the last. "We're just passing through." she said at least to the creature. Perhaps if he kept talking she might be a better idea of his battle strength. A battle out in the open like this might attract more unwanted attention. If things could be ended peacefully she'd would be willing to try. No all hollow were interested in death and bloodshed.
