Curio Meru

When Meru was a normal human he was a lonely person who did not like talking with others a lot. He was quiet and he was not noticed by anybody. He did not like interacting with others at all and so he did not use to have any friends. However, upon meeting Ori, a friend of his and the girl he loved, Meru started being friendly towards her. His personality changed to that of a person who was willing to sacrifice anything for the person he loved and that was what led to Meru's death.
After being sent to Soul Society, Meru's personality was his original before he met with Ori. He was still distant to others, lonely, he did not like talking a lot and he used to think of his life in the Real World.
Also, Meru has a liking for Shinigamis. He likes the job of Shinigamis and that they protect people. After witnessing their powers, he tried to become one so that he would get powers to protect people and especially Ori if he gets the chance to do so.

Human Life Arc

Since Meru was a child, he differed completely from the other children. He was quiet and lonely, he did not like playing with them at all and he hated talking to them. Apparently, he believed that he was superior to them and that he should not interact with them because his intelligence was in a greater level than theirs. The few times he used to talk with them was because he needed them for something and so he manipulated them into doing what he wished.

One day, though, everything was about to change. Meru met a girl around his age, named Ori. Apparently, the girl approached him and eventually they turned into good friends. A friendship started between those two. Despite the fact that Meru still knew that he could not talk with Ori, just like he could not talk with any other child, for a strange reason he had taken a liking of her and he enjoyed having a conversation with her. For years, the two of them were good friends and they grew up together.

As the two grew up, Meru started realising the reason why he had taken a liking on her. The young man was in love with the girl. As the years passed and the two were teenagers, he was always taking care of her, protecting her when needed. However, he never had the courage and the strength to tell her his feelings and so nothing between those two happened...

When the two finally turned to adults Meru decided to express her his feelings. He was determined to tell her that he was in love with her and that he was willing to do anything she wished. He was willing to tell her that he would never stop taking care of her and that he would be loyal to her no matter what. However, before he said anything to her, she told him the shocking truth. The young woman had found somebody else already and she would marry him...

Upon hearing this, Meru's heart was torn apart. As he noticed that Ori was happy already, he decided to not say anything and instead he started being lonely again. Since then, he never talked to the girl and despite the fact that she tried to talk to him, he did not say anything to her. Instead, he was following her and watching her in secret and thought of how things would be if he revealed her how he felt about her.

However, one day... As he was following her to see how she was, something terrible happened. As she was walking on the road, a car approached her with high speeds. The car was about to hit her. Without even thinking, Meru started running towards her and pushed her out of the way while himself got hit by the car and was sent several meters away. His whole body was bleeding and blood was coming out of his mouth. He could barely speak and when he speaked, more blood was coming out. He was desperate...

Seeing what happened, Ori moved towards him. She grabbed his hand and asked him why he would do that. Realising that he was dying, Meru decided to tell her his feelings so that he would not die with regrets. Even if he died, he would have relieved his heart from the pain it suffered for many years. And so he did. The man's last dying words were the expression of his love for Ori and so he died peacefully after listening to the woman's "Thank you." for the love he offered her.

Soul Society Arc

After dying, Meru was sent to Rokungai. Apparently, there he lived just like he lived in the Real World before he met with Ori. He was lonely, he did not like talking a lot and he did not make any friends. He was living by himself and he was happy that he had a life like that. While alone, he was thinking of his life and the happy moments he lived with Ori, which he did not forget...

One day, as he was walking on Rokungai, a Hollow suddenly appeared. The Hollow started attacking the residents of Rokungai until a Shinigami appeared and slayed it. Upon seeing this, Meru got excited and he decided to become a Shinigami. As a result, he entered the Shinigami Academy and started training...

As Meru is a smart person, he has almost graduated from the Academy after three years of attending. There, he showed his great potential in speed related techniques and his remarkable speed was usually commented. And now, Meru believes that he is almost ready to graduate from the Academy and hopes to get transfered to a Divison as a Shinigami, soon.

In a small dark room in the 4th Division Barracks, a man is lying on a bed. The man's head is lying on a soft pillow and he is staring with his grey eyes above. The look on his face, solely, can show many things... The man seems to be thinking of something. Something that happened in the past. Curio Meru, the man, is thinking of the moment of his death...

Twenty years ago, in Karakura Town, Meru was doing what he always did. Apparently, after removing himself away from the woman he loved, he was simply following her and watching her to know if she was alright. If she was happy, he would be too. That was the kind of person Meru was. If the woman he loved was feeling okay, he would feel too. If she was feeling sad, he would feel too. However, she could not understand this. She had chosen somebody else over him...

As he watched at her from afar, Meru smiled. The smile on her face was making him happy, too. As he knew her better than anybody else, he could read her mind like it was an opened book.

However, everything was about to change. As Ori walked in a road, a car approached her with great speeds. Meru, who was looking at her could understand that the car would hit her if she did not move. Ori stared at the car and her legs started trembling. As she feared of getting hit by the car, she could not move a single inch. And so, in order to protect her the man made the ultimate sacrifice. Before the car hit her, he jumped in front of the way as soon as possible while pushing her away. The car hit on him and sent him several meters way, breaking most of his body parts.

Upon seeing the accident, Ori run towards Meru, surprised by the fact that he was there. She sit on her knees and looked at him. With tears coming out of her eyes, she asked him

"Meru... Why... Why would you do this?"

"Hm?" Isn't it obvious?" the man asked with a calm voice while coughing blood and while moving his hand with much difficulty to clear the woman's face from her tears.

"Obvious? What do you mean? The last year... You disappeared from my life all of a sudden. I believed you didn't think of me as a friend anymore... And now... You saved me."

"A friend? Hahahaha. Well, I always loved you like a friend... And as a woman Ori. I do not want to die with regrets for not saying how I felt for you. I love you. I love you with all my heart. I love you so much that I can barely take it."

"Stop! Don't speak!" she responded.

"No, I will... I will speak until I finish what I want to say. Listen. No matter where you are, I want you to know that I will be protecting you... And if I am not there, you have to know that I will be away, searching for a way to protect you."

"... Thank you Meru..." she said while kissing him on the forehead.

Then, Meru closed his eyes. He stopped coughing blood. He stopped breathing and his heart stopped beating. Slowly, his body started getting colder and colder... And Ori's hands that were touching his own were getting cold as well. She could feel the change of temperature in Meru's body. Meru had just died, protecting her and saving her from the car that would almost hit her... Meru gave up his life for the sake of his love.

After thinking of this, a tear came out of his eye. He moved his right hand on his eye, clearing the eye from the tear. He said

"Ori... I am sorry... I could not keep my promise... But I will try to when I get the chance..." .

And after completing his sentence, the man got up, grabbed his sword and started walking in the barracks to see what was going on, like nothing happened at all.
