Personality: Ryouta is a rather eccentric individual who has a passion for novelties and newness. He collects trinkets and inventions that are new. Ryouta dislikes fighting, not because he is a pacifist, but because he’s a minimalist. He hates the effort that goes into fighting. In this sense, he’s lazy; also, he hates anything he considers busywork or pointless. His sense of humor is dry and sarcastic, sometimes witty but odd, and very vulgar. Ryouta almost never raises his voice; in short, he’s a reserved, calming type of person. Despite this, he has strong convictions, and will defend his principles with almost zealous fervor. All of this is in the sense of an invested science; for Ryouta, knowledge comes first.

Ryouta wears a 2nd Division esque outfit beneath his Captain’s haori. His Captain's haori appears to have been cut in perfectly straight lines in several places, and then sewn back together with gray thread, and with very obvious stitching. It also has been altered to look more like a lab coat than a haori, though the sleeves remain wide like a normal haori, and it still has the same general shape. Ryouta has gray hair and several scars around his left eye as a result of his surgery. He possesses both a mechanical arm and mechanical eye. He wears standard Shinigami footwear.

Sealed Zanpakutō: Ryouta’s sealed Zanpakuto appears to be a normal katana. The hilt is cerulean and the guard is circular with a wave-like pattern.

Name: Reifujin Arashi (Lady Tempest)
Spirit Description: Reifujin Arashi looks like a sprite (the fairy) except human sized. It’s not shown in the picture, but she has sharpened incisors, and her eyes resemble a feline’s. Also, her dress has a lion depicted on it.

Reifujin Arashi is not at all like Ryouta in that she is very arrogant. However, much like Ryouta, Reifujin is quite the extrovert and is constantly saying that if she was Ryouta, she’d “go up to every cute girl in Soul Society and show her what REAL pleasure is.” At this point, the faintest bit of blush will creep up Ryouta’s cheeks and he’ll shush her.

Inner World: The world is generally a gently rolling ocean, at the center of which is an island of ice, where Reifujin normally resides, and where Kazu arrives to speak to her. Around the island of ice is a thin curtain of steam through which one can view the ocean. It becomes stormy and the island (or iceberg) pitches with the waves when Reifujin and Ryouta spar.

Shikai Appearance: Ryouta’s sword seems to dissolve into innumerable water droplets, except leaving the hilt in his hands.
Shikai Abilities: Generally speaking, Ryouta’s Zanpakuto grants him the ability to create water (to an extent) and manipulate existing water on a molecular level. Meaning he can change its form from solid to liquid to gas. Range: Medium-Long. 150 meters. The amount of water he can control in Shikai is comparable to the amount of water in 3 Olympic swimming pools, or visually, Byakuya’s Shikai, in terms of mass. Common attacks with this ability include making blades of ice to cut, using pressurized water to block or smash, or using steam to burn.

Technique 1 Sudden Mist (Kyuugeki Kasumi): Ryouta can generate a large amount of either cold or hot (steam) mist. It’s not ordinary mist or steam; it contains trace amounts of his reiatsu. Copious amounts of it effectively blind Ryouta’s opponent, and since the mist contains his reiatsu, makes it difficult to track his movement. He can cause the mist to condense into liquid (instead of gaseous) form nearly instantly, and then use it as a Mizuyaiba attack. Also, the mist seems to shift of its own accord into frightening shapes resembling lions, but these are aesthetic. Range: Circular with 50 meter radius.

Technique 2: Ice Coffin (Aisu Kan’oke): Ryouta can cause liquid to wrap around an enemy from the surface up, upon which point it will freeze. This can allow Ryouta to literally shatter his enemies, or, if he has no intention of killing, immobilize them without using time-consuming kido. This is purely aesthetic, but when the water is creeping up whatever surface, it seems to take on the appearance of claws, or fangs. Range: Short. Within 25 feet.

Technique 3: Senpuku no Tategami (Lion’s Ambush) – This move takes time to set up, but is absolutely devastating. Ryouta must form a rough circle of liquid on any surface with his attacks. At that point, he must trick an opponent into standing inside the circle, and then activate Aisu Kan’oke. While the opponent is immobilized, the rounded edges of the circle will flare with blue reiatsu, and seem to look like a lion’s mane. The inside of the circle will take on the appearance of a lion’s face, with the mouth where the enemy is standing. The mouth opens to fill the entire circle, and fangs of ice will stab into the enemy, effectively impaling them, or if they’re particularly tough (aka really tough Hierro) at least pinning them down or something. After Aisu Kan’oke is activated, it takes about 3 seconds for the rest of the technique to happen. Range: Short. Within 25 feet.

Bankai: Shugotenshi no Raikou Arashi (Guardian Angel of the Lightning Storm)

Bankai Appearance: Upon using Bankai, reiatsu infused water will surround Ryouta. This reiatsu will spread all over his body and form a suit of icy armor. The armor is very compact in that it fits Ryouta’s body tightly and allows maximum movement (making the vulnerable points at the joints). The helmet looks like a lion’s head, with Ryouta’s head in the of its mouth. It is very light, and extremely cold to the touch if anyone but Ryouta touches it. Prolonged contact (longer than a few seconds) would cause frostbite or worse. His Bankai seems to bring the temperature in his immediate vicinity down by about 20 degrees. The gauntlets on his armor have round little studs on each of the knuckles except the thumbs, and from each of these studs a claw about a foot in length can extend (the length of these claws is adjustable to anything within a foot.) These claws are slightly hooked at the end. In addition, from the wrists, single blades can appear out to cross the palms (like in Assassin’s Creed).

Bankai Abilities: Ryouta’s Bankai, in addition to the extra protection, grants him increased control over the element of water. Now, instead of having control over water on just a molecular level, he can control it on an atomic level. This means that he can now separate the bonds of the water molecules to create electricity to augment his water based attacks. In addition, he can now manipulate up to 6,000,000 gallons of water at once, about the amount in 10 Olympic size swimming pools. Obviously, his Bankai increases the power, speed, and efficiency of his Shikai techs.

Technique 1 Gekido no Megami (Rage of the Goddess): It creates a spherical formation of water, which swirls around the opponent like a cloud. It then flies into them from every possible angle, transforming into sharp blades of ice as it does so, leaving no blind spots and nearly no possibility to escape. It then collapses on itself, obliterating the opponent. It is possible to escape maximum damage from this technique if one has the skill to do so; before it collapses upon itself, there is a microsecond of time in which to Flash Step or Sonido away. It is unlikely that anyone below Ryouta’s level of power would be able to do so.

Technique 2 Reifujin Tenshi (Lady Angel): It focuses all of his power into a single focal point, his sword, which he creates out of available water. The power is too great to be contained by the sword alone, however, and Ryouta will glow with a brilliant white reiatsu that forms a set of eight wings of water on his back, four on each side. In this form, Ryouta is capable of doing massive amounts of damage with a single blow; however he can only maintain this form for five minutes before having to seal his sword and rest/be healed.

History/Background: In life, Ryouta was a fairly unremarkable person both in terms of fame and fortune. However, he was and is brilliant. At age 5, among other remarkable things, he could take apart and put back together a computer. At age 10, he had actually written several papers that had been published in scientific journals. During high school, when he was 14, he successfully constructed a small, working nuclear energy powered generator in his garage. He graduated high school shortly after, and actually did not attend a single college thereafter; instead, he took several courses at several colleges, including MIT, Harvard, and Yale.
Afterward, he returned to Japan and became a scientist whose primary work was optimizing different types of alternative energy. Ryouta was intensely passionate about his work and research, often spending long hours at his lab. It was Ryouta who figured out how to store solar energy. Any money that he deemed superfluous that came into his hands as a result of his work was donated to charity. Unfortunately, Ryouta’s demise came about in a car accident caused by a drunk driver when he was driving home from his lab.
When he found himself in Rukongai, he took the information in stride and did the typical scientist thing, that is, he went around and gathered as much information as he could about this new world. This was how he learned about the Shinigami Academy, which he enlisted in immediately, realizing that his intellectual opportunities in Rukongai would be severely limited. The rest, as they say is history.
