Personality: He has a strong mind and almost nothing can phase him. He tends to rely on his own judgments which are generally based on facts and law and likes to know almost everything about something before he makes a decision about it, if needed he will make the decision he deems best given the information at hand. He understands and can read people extremely well because of his vast array of experiences delving into the minds of people. He can be compassionate and understanding, although he can look down on people because of all the knowledge and experience he has as well as sometimes getting frustrated as to why other people cannot understand what he means and tends to be stubborn unless provided new information to consider.He doesn’t really trust people all that well because of his experience with the innermost of people’s minds. He still has a twisted and cruel part of himself created from the time when his powers were abused, which he keeps safely locked away and will only release part of it and let it affect him for intimidation purposes.

Abilities

Shikai Refer to the Looks to see the general design. The Blade itself is about 4’ long and the handle about 15” long. It has the ability to switch between being solid and incorporeal. He can mix and match his powers so long as it meets the form requirements. And If he calls it’s name the blade teleports into his hand, however cannot teleport into a solid object.

Shikai ability 1
Turns the blade’s color blue, and whatever the blade cuts, riatsu or energy cannot pass through that point. So if he cuts your arm all the way through you could not fire an ability out of your arm. If he cuts a shinigami’s leg he would no longer be able to channel or use riatsu to boost his speed beyond his physical prowess, this would also halt healing if he cut a wound. This power takes about a day to wear off, faster depending on relative spirit power.

Can be used in both Solid and incorporeal forms.

Shikai Ability 2
Turns the blade’s color yellow, and when his blade is in contact with someone he can read their current feelings or thoughts. With prolonged maintained contact he can even start looking through that person’s past. Certain events would take about a minute of prolonged exposure to uncover and know. A person’s entire history would take something akin to a few days. The blade must remain in contact the whole time, if it goes out of contact with the person he has to start over.

Can only be used in incorporeal form.

Shikai Ability 3
The blade turns red and it becomes the ultimate slicing tool. All the power of his strikes is transferred to the blade’s edge, making his strikes slice through almost anything, there is no wasted energy. For example if someone struck the ground extremely hard it might fragment and spray chunks of rock or create an indent in the ground, his blade focuses all that to the edge so if he struck the ground extremely hard there would only be a slice from where his sword passed through it. This does not extend past the physical blade.

Can only be used in Solid form.

Bankai
Two Large metal wings form on his back, about 7 feet long each. The feathers are about a foot long each and about 2 inches wide at their widest point, and are very sharp. His wings are part of his zanpakuto and can be set into any of the shikai states.

Bankai Ability 1
He releases half his spirit power in feathers from his wings to attack a target, they keep the state of shikai form that they were set to and are homing. They move at his speed. In the case of the 1st and 3rd form, they stop moving after they pass through 5 things or make contact with something with a much higher spirit concentration than themselves, upon which they dissolve. He can dissolve the fired feathers at will as well. His own feathers cannot harm him. 2 post cooldown.
The feathers regenerate immediately after being fired.

Bankai Ability 2
He uses his wings to form a near impenetrable barrier round him by enclosing himself in his wings. During this state he rapidly heals all but the most grievous of his wounds and cures all ailments. He can see through his wings in this state. 4 post cooldown.

Info on Inner Spirit World
His inner world looks much like a misty abyss without gravity, with everything from objects to memories floating around inside. The coloration is a dark blue and you cannot see anything over about 200 feet away because it fades into the mist.

History:

He woke up in Rukongai with no knowledge of his past life or even where he was, luckily for him he was quickly taken in by a couple that ran a tea shop, so long as he worked for them as a waiter. Over time he learned where he was and the reason he was there, and he was happy working at the tea shop and serving those who came. One day a few men in black robes came in to be served, and he asked the couple about them and that was when he was first learned about shinigami. Over the next couple weeks not much happened but he still wanted to learn more about the shinigami, unfortunately not a lot of people knew much about them. The next time those shinigami came in he took the opportunity to ask them a lot of questions about what they do and who they are, after answering all the questions the shinigami suggested that perhaps Kai might want to join the academy and become a shinigami himself. A few days later he decided to do just that and said his farewells and headed off to the academy

The academy was a lot different than he had thought it would be, though he adapted and learned quickly, he learned that he was pretty balanced in the things he was good at, he was especially quick and good with his blade. Over the next couple of months he trained and learned at the academy until he graduated. He applied to 5th Division and got accepted at started to go out on missions and patrols with his squad mates.

After a few years or so he finally managed to unleash his shikai, and with training managed to discover that his blade could halt the flow of reiatsu in an enemy. An officer in 2nd division quickly saw the potential of this ability for capture and had his transferred into 2nd division. He was not entirely happy about the change, going from a happy life with friends to a life of secrecy and monotonous guarding. On top of it all he wasn’t even fighting hollows anymore just people. He took solace in his training, and his friendships that he managed to make in the 2nd division, his main friend was a man named Kuro, he didn’t talk all that much and it took some time for Kai to get him to open up but they quickly became friends. They were often sent on missions together and even trained together. Over time spent with his spirit he was told that he was ready for another power, the ability to use his blade to read a person’s feelings and even their past. Proud of this accomplishment he showed it to Kuro and a few others and got almost immediately transferred to the investigation part of 2nd division. He wasn’t happy about it but at least he could uncover the truth and make them face justice for their deeds as well as still meet up with his friends for drinks and talking. So he was set to work reading the past of those convicted and testifying using that as evidence. However it began to take a toll on his mind, seeing and feeling what those people had experienced during their crimes began to corrupt his thinking, he started to sometimes have murderous thoughts and began enjoying other’s suffering, it was controllable but it was still there.

He mentioned these concerns to his superior officer, who was concerned but they needed him in working condition for the cases so he had a 4th squad mind specialist brought in who helped to calm his raging mind and bring it under control and so life continued. He relived the crimes of the convicted and met with the specialist regularly and there were some problems that arose but they were quickly addressed.

The problems arose when he was transferred to work on high profile cases, someone made the argument that he could be lying, and the solution to that ended up being to isolate him, he objected loudly but he also understood that it was a valid point and should be heeded, he was ok for a while but the specialist was no longer allowed to come as she might “contaminate the evidence.” During this time he managed to help convict all sorts of people from personal assassins to even some corrupt members of the Central 46 itself. There were even a few assassination attempts on his live to silence him and end his testimony, so there was a Permanent guard around him as well. Over this time his mind started to deteriorate, being influenced by all those who he had read. But also during this time he had become stronger than ever before because all he did in isolation was train. He started to refuse to work because of the toll on his mind and he was losing control, they brought in the mind specialist and she confirmed his opinion, it was far too dangerous to continue what he was doing with the state his mind was at.

So it was decided that he should be released back into normal duty after having spent over a year in isolation being forced to read someone’s mind on almost a daily basis. He met up with his old friend Kuro the day he was set free and Kuro filled him in on everything that had happened in the time he had been gone, they talked late into the night and into the morning. At dawn some shinigami showed up and arrested Kai for the murder of a Central 46 member, Kuro and Kai Protested but he was taken away anyways and put in isolation. Kai may have been able to prove other’s guild or innocence but he couldn’t prove his own. They weren’t even listening to the fact that he had been with Kuro the entire time. Kai knew what was going on when he heard who had been killed, it was the Central 46 member who had been using his powers to oust those that were corrupt on the Central 46, and they were blaming that murder on him, even going so far as to quote the mind specialist’s report, calling his mind unstable and saying that he lost control and killed him for making him read all those people as some sort of revenge.

He honestly had no chance of defending himself against the influence of the corrupt 46 members and he was sentenced to execution and the date was rapidly sped up compared to the normal process. He knew he had to escape if he was to live, and he had just the tool to do so. Noone knew it but he had received another power from his zanpakuto spirit, the ability to slice through almost anything. A few days before his scheduled execution date he called his zanpakuto to him a cut a hole in the wall and escaped, the only stop he made before leaving was to Kuro to say farewell before he left, and to steal a gigai before leaving Soul Society all together and escaping to earth.

He didn’t know much of what followed but he knew they were looking for him, he evaded capture for many years until all of a sudden they stopped looking for him, he didn’t know why. He ended up in a monastery in the mountains, training with the monks and meditating, slowly regaining control over his own mind. Over the course of about 20 years he managed to regain full control over his mind as well as grow tremendously in his own power and abilities. By the time another 10 years had passed he had an Iron-clad mind which could withstand almost anything and he had even unlocked his bankai as well as a few abilities to go with it.

One day he was meditating when one of the monks came in with a letter for him, on the back was a stamp of a black butterfly, sighing he opened the letter and to his surprise it was from Kuro, apparently Kuro had become Captain of the 2nd division and the reason that the pursuit against him had ended because his innocence had been proven, and Kuro was encouraging him to come back, and Guaranteed that his powers would never again be abused the way they were and that he would open a portal in a month at the monastery to meet with Kai and find out his answer. Kai thought about it over the course of the month and decided to accept his offer and met with Kuro and headed back to Soul Society with him.

They spent the next few days and night talking, drinking and reminiscing about old time, with people sometimes coming in and handing Kuro paperwork and occasionally Kuro having to deal with business. Kuro when hearing that Kai had achieved Bankai strongly encouraged him to take the Captain Proficiency test and become a captain. Kai pondered for a while and consented it would be a good idea, if they would even allow it. As it turns out they would allow it as long as he consented to a mental evaluation and an interview with some of the captains about his opinions and judgments about things. He easily passed both the Captain Proficiency test and the mental evaluation and thought that the interview went well, now he only had to wait to find out where they were going to put him…
