Name: Shikyo Yoshi
Age: Appears to be around 20-21
Height: 6'1
Weight: 150 lbs
Gender: Male
Personality: Condescending and arrogant, Shikyo is bitterly sarcastic most of the time. He believes that everyone has ulterior motives in their actions and as such is very careful in who he trusts. He could be considered paranoid in that regard but Shikyo is also highly intelligent and perceptive, able to discern the true reason behind people's actions. He is very observant (he has close to a photographic memory) and even when it appears that he is not paying attention, he is actually taking in the details of his surroundings. In his spare time, when not training, Shikyo could be found engaging in mind games for mental stimulation.
Appearance: Shikyo has a spiky, jet black head of hair. He has piercing green eyes that stand out because of his ebony colored skin; and he most often wears gold wristbands on each of his wrists. He carries his Zanpakuto attached to his back with a black sheath.
Sealed Zanpakutō : Shikyo's Zanpakuto is different from others due to the fact that it appears to a walking stick (reminiscent of the kind a blind person would use); except for the fact that it is around 3 inches in diameter and made of metal so that it can easily battle other Zanpakuto without breaking. It's mostly green with two vertical gold stripes and a black hilt.
History/Background: In Shikyo's life before his death he was an accomplished detective who was known for solving crimes when the police had failed to do so. However as his successes grew, so did his enemies and during his last case he was betrayed by someone working with him. This betrayal cost Shikyo his life and the next thing he remembers is being in Sereiti. His first memories of Sereiti are of being awoken by the loud roar of a fast approaching Hollow intending to consume his soul. Thankfully, he was saved by a Shinigami on patrol and after seeing the Soul Reaper in action, Shikyo knew at once that he wanted to become one of them.
A child genius in his previous life, Shikyo spoke full sentences when he was only 18 months old and could perform complex calculations by the age of five. His parents, not wanting him to waste any of his gifts, quickly enrolled him in a special school for gifted children and through his teaching he excelled quicker than they imagined and graduated high school at the age of 15. His father owned a small repair shop where Shikyo would spend his time fixing the items and machines that even his father could not fix. It seemed that his cognitive abilities grew beyond those of a normal person and sometimes he would reveal information about a person that no one could have known. One day a friend of his father's, a police detective, came into the shop to have something fixed and while Shikyo was working on it overheard the man explaining the details of a difficult case. As soon as he finished the project, Shikyo explained to the man that based on the information the policeman shared he knew who had stolen the particular items and also where to find them. It seemed that Shikyo's intensive knowledge of understanding patterns and reading people was beyond anything the policeman had seen before and he talked Shikyo into quitting the shop and applying to work with the police.
Shikyo solved countless cases during his time as a detective (which he reached at the age of 18) and soon enough he had made a name for himself. It was very apparent to him that he was intellectually superior to his comrades and because of that he spent little time conversing with them about matters other than the relevant case. One day however, another detective beat Shikyo to a conclusion that he should have arrived at faster and because of that Shikyo began to talk to this man, seeing him as an equal. The pair eventually became friends and with the two talented detectives working together it seemed that there was no case that couldn't be solved. A couple years later a case arrived before them of a seemingly perfect crime, and whereas it would normally take the pair less than a day to solve a case, they still had no answer after a week. Shikyo feared that he was losing his abilities and decided to go investigating on his own. During the course of his investigation he discovered that his partner had intimate knowledge of the case that he had not shared with Shikyo. He confronted his partner and was surprised to learn that it was in fact his partner who had masterminded the murder in order to catch Shikyo off guard and at his lowest point, after which he pulled out a gun and shot him.
Waking in Sereiti, Shikyo hardly had time to figure out what happened before a large bird-like Hollow attacked him. Of course, he ran and as he sprinted through the streets he was saved by a Shinigami on patrol. After dispatching the Hollow, the Shinigami discussed with Shikyo who he was and where Shikyo had ended up. Following their encounter, Shikyo thought back to his own previous life, going through his memories and trying to figure out why his partner had betrayed him. He knew that he would have almost an infinite amount of time to discover this fact and knew that one day he would see his partner again in this world. In the mean time, however, Shikyo decided to begin training to become a Shinigami; because in his mind it was the closest thing to what he use to be as a detective.

Call out phrase: Scatter the Sands Miku
Description of released form: The emerald staff that Shikyo normally carries burst into sand that hovers above his head, revealing a golden blade attached to a black hilt that has two white ribbons hanging from its end.
Ability 1: After being released, Miku grants Shikyo control over sand and allows him to convert it to and from glass. Miku is an elemental type Zanpakuto, and the element is earth but Shikyo is only able to manipulate sand. Unless there is already sand on the battlefield then the extent of control Shikyo has only applies to the mist of sand that hovers over his head after releasing his Zanpakuto. With this sand he is able to shift it to glass to block low level attacks (mid-high level attacks break through the "shield" to varying degrees). He is also able to manipulate to sand into offensive capabilities by firing glass shards from it at his opponent. This ability is passive and as such does not have a name. The previous examples given are simply ways that Shikyo can use it. (Further abilities will have names however)
Ability 2: The ability is activated when Shikyo announces the phrase "Bind the Sands Miku." Shikyo expands the sand released during the activation of his first ability so that it forms a sphere around him before converting to glass, resulting in a transparent "bubble" of sorts that serves to protect him from attacks. The sphere prevents most energy-based attacks and low to mid level kidou from reaching Shikyo, however the shield will begin to erode if placed under constant pressure from physical attacks. Because Shikyo must constantly stream his reiatsu through the sphere to keep himself safe he is unable to attack while his ability is activated, and due to the amount of energy it requires to maintain he doesn't remain in the sphere for longer than 5-10 minutes (the time the defense can be maintained as well as how much it can withstand before breaking is directly proportional to Shikyo's spirit power; i.e. for every 5 spirit power over 15 he can maintain the sphere for an additional minute and block a slightly higher kidou or energy based attack. Although he cannot change the fact that it will erode under physical attacks, the higher his spirit power the more pressure the sphere can take before it shatters).

A blood curdling sound erupted from seemingly nowhere, waking the sleeping Shikyo from his position lying in a patch of grass. "Where..." Before he had a chance to finish his sentence he saw the fast approaching shape of what appeared to be a bird barreling toward him. However the thing seemed to be as big as an elephant and its all black exterior with the exception of the white mask, gave Shikyo the instant impression that this was not something he wanted to try and mess with. Pushing himself up quickly he turned to run, as fast as his legs could carry him, away from the shrieking beast. However the creature was much faster than Shikyo and was nearly upon him when Shikyo heard the high-pitched sound of a ringing blade. He turned around to see the beast fading away as it had been cut in half and a mysterious stranger adorned in a black robe sheathing his sword. Hundreds of questions flew into Shikyo's mind as he observed the stranger, before she turned around. Shikyo decided to address his main concern first as he voiced, "Who are you?"
"I'm a Shinigami." the woman replied as she approached him. "This is the Soul Society, a place where the souls of the dead congregate to live out their days in peace."
"In peace?" Shikyo repeated incredulously. "What about that thing that just tried to eat me?"
"A Hollow." The Shinigami explained. "Sometimes a soul gets twisted and pulled by the evil they've done in a previous life or something emotionally damages them here and they turn...into that."
Shikyo processed the information for a moment, looking the Shinigami up and down and noticing the sword.
"And you, the Shinigami, are protectors of this place?" Shikyo stated more than asked. The Shinigami nodded in agreement before a second howl could be heard in the distance.
"You'll be fine now." She assured. She tilted her head as he sensed the potential spiritual pressure within him. "Go and seek out Elder Hiroshi, he will help you through this transition." As she said this, the Shinigami disappeared in a cloud of smoke and dust, leaving Shikyo alone with his thoughts.
