| ShinigamiName: Tao Ailin
Actual Age: 116 Years
Apparent Age: 16 Years
Height: 5’2”
Weight: 103 lbs
Gender: Female
Personality:
Described by many as quiet and calm, Ailin’s personality has the basic essentials of the perfect tool. She is apathetic to most of the world and has shown that she is capable to coping with being completely alone. She seems to be able to pass through people without truly making a mark that they would remember her by.
In Ailin’s mind there is always someone who can do what she does and does it better. She used to be the type of person that would strive to be the best in everything she did, but her outlook on life has been warped in so many different ways. She has defined “The Best” as an unattainable title for herself, but still does everything she can to improve. No one really knows why this is, but it is suspected that it is from her respectable upbringing. She knows that the world can only expect from her a little more than she expects from herself.
Friendships aren’t something that Ailin is fond of. She has only had one close friend in her life that she can say she truly cared about; everyone else is only an acquaintance. She isn’t the type of person who likes to connect herself to other people beyond what is needed. She is a great listener if a person needs to talk and will listen without a single comment. She prefers not to give advice to anyone, but is willing to listen to any criticism someone might have for her. People have mistaken this quality about her as a weakness, but it isn’t such a thing. She prefers not to give advice because she thinks that people learn better through experience, but isn’t outspoken enough to tell someone that she doesn’t want to hear what they have to say.
The only noticeable flaw in Ailin’s doll-like façade is the fact that she isn’t afraid to debate things that she doesn’t agree with. She is a knowledgeable person, but doesn’t enjoy partaking in things that she finds futile. Despite this fact she will talk with people if they make the effort to talk to her first. She will laugh even if the joke wasn’t funny, and will lie in order to stop someone’s feelings from getting hurt, but her thoughts are a different story; pessimistic at best, they show how she truly is. . . Everything she doesn’t want people to see. . . Everything she was taught to hide. . . Weaknesses that she wishes didn’t exist. . . The little girl she truly is. If a person was able to truly get to know her, they would see how broken she truly is.
Appearance:
Standing at a total height of about 5’2” and weighing about 103 pounds, many people mistake Ailin to be years younger than she actually is.
She has eyes that are a beautiful shade of maroon, resembling that of a deep sunset, and dominate the better part of her face. The shade changes from a deep maroon to having light red hue based on the lighting of the area or room. Her eyes hold a lot of water and it is assumed that this is because Ailin herself refuses to allow herself the luxury of crying.
Her hair is short, and most of it bounces around her chin in a small bob. At certain places she has let it grow to longer lengths surrounding her face as well as in the back of her head. She has bangs that to fall in front of her eyes. The color seems to be pure white and has been that way since she was born. When looking closely, you can see silver streaks mixed in with it, illuminating it, making it appear more beautiful.
Her frame is not something to brag about, but she’s proud of it. She’s slim, with a few curves. Her small stature allows her to move freely through small spaces and her movements are faster than that of the average person.
Sealed Zanpakutō:
Beautiful and majestic are words that could describe Ailin’s sealed zanpakutō, but isn’t that how it is for most?
A standard Katana that is 40 inches in length. It has a naturally white hilt, but has been wrapped in black silk, forming a diamond pattern down both sides. The finally sharpened blade seems to have a dark hue about it, looking more black than the silver it is assumed to be.
The scabbard is pure white and has black silk wrapped around it near the opening that has been tied into s single knot. The guard is pure black with swirls of white in a circular form.

History/Background:
Growing up as the second child and only daughter in the Tao house, Ailin knows what it means to try hard to achieve the impossible.
The first few years of Ailin’s life weren’t anything out of the ordinary. Her family was above middle-class, but not enough to be considered that of “Nobility.” Her father was an amazing Martial Artist, and as such, he expected his children to be able to defend themselves. At the age of 5 she began training in private lessons with him, but was rarely able to land a hit. He once teased her because of her inability to become something great saying: “It seems that you don’t really want to learn Ailin.” At the time she didn’t know that him saying this would be something that would become something that would effect many of her actions later in life.
Her human life wasn’t anything to be proud about. She trained with her father on a daily basis and attended school like any other person in her family’s social class. She loved studying and among the students she was one of the pupils that stood out the most. Her excellence in thinking, planning, and doing were qualities that served her well as she continued on the journey that most people refer to as “Life.”
The year she turned 16, a tragic thing happened in her family. A fire destroyed her home in China, killing the entire Tao family. The fire started in the kitchen of their house, burning through the family room and their courtyard before reaching the main house. Ailin was able to escape through her bedroom window, but later died from smoke inhalation, her lungs basically collapsing on themselves. She died 4 months before her 17th Birthday.
Waking up in the “Spirit World” as she refers to it wasn’t something that Ailin was expecting. She was completely alone, even in the crowded streets of East Rukongai. She knew she was dead, but couldn’t figure out where she was exactly and determined that she was in “Limbo” and her fate was to wander by herself, leaving the crowded city streets to a much smaller town further away from what she overheard people referring to as the “Seireitei.”
Confusion was the only thing that would accompany her on her bid to seclude herself from most civilization. She didn’t understand what she had done in her life to deserve to live as a spirit that couldn’t pass through the gates of Heaven.
Her new home wasn’t pleasant to her, the small outskirts seeming to have even more crime than the larger city that she had woken up in. Ailin had to defend herself and provide for herself somehow. She made a few acquaintances, but never truly met anyone she could bring herself to care about in the long run.
112 years into her seclusion she witnessed a battle between two males, both in black robes. One was wearing a white overcoat displaying a symbol on the back, the other had a band around his arm with the same symbol as the coat; both had swords in hand. Watching them from what she thought to be a safe distance, she calculated the movements of their battle, a burst of excitement rising in her every time their swords clashed. The difference between their power wasn’t hard to distinguish, but the battle raged on.
When the two of the men noticed her from her perch, they engaged her in a conversation, talking about her past, her current-so-called-life, and her plans for the future. When Ailin told them about how she suspected she was in “Limbo” they both laughed and explained to her that she was in her afterlife, and even though some of the souls their were indeed destined for nothing more than the despair of the Rukongai, she herself was not. Before they left the one in the white coat offered her a place in what he referred to as the “Shinigami Academy.”
Roleplay Sample:
Breathing heavily, Ailin looked at the opponent in front of her. Even though learning martial arts wasn’t exactly a choice of her own; it was she who had asked him to train her, it was she who had trained hard every day to be able to spar with him at this level.
She watched him charge at her, his footsteps light on the wooden floor. He was fast, he was the best of her father’s students, and he was a great teacher. That was why she had chosen him. The fact that he accepted surprised her beyond belief; she had always held him in the highest regard, though they were only months apart.
She had improved from the last time they had sparred together. Able to avoid most of his attacks while bringing her arms up to block the ones that she was unable to miss all together. Seeing a change in his appearance, she was she was caught off guard when his attacks sped up, his movements harder to follow and when his body slipped from view; she panicked. His next movement hit her hard and fast, her hands unable to block most of the blow. Pain seeped through her gentle façade.
“Enough!” She said as she fell to her knees, her breathing ragged. She looked over at him, a smile on his face. Not a smile of victory, but one that told her that he was proud she had chosen him to train with her.
“I thought you would’ve had me stop sooner than that, Ailin. You’ve gotten a lot better.” He said as he moved to sit on the floor next to her.
“Stop pushing yourself to your limits and you’ll have a chance to learn from your experiences. It will also lessen the time it takes you to come back from such a hit.” He said; trying to teach her a lesson he thought she had already learned. A smile found its way to her face, though her body felt as though it would never be the same again.
“Thank you.” She said as she lifted herself from the ground, bowing to him before she left the room. When it came to training her, he was stricter than anyone else. They could be the best of friends when not sparring, but inside the kwoon, when she was nothing more than his subordinate, she’d treat him with all the respect a teacher deserved.
