Recovery and regrouping

Arawn's stay in the hospital was short. The wound he sustained from his bout wouldn't leave a scar. And he was only required some rest to restore his depleted energy. He appreciated his opponent's good sportsmanship, but regretted not asking his name. He was an easy figure to remember, Arawn was confident that he would be able to find him later. The hospital turned out to be the barracks for the 4th Division that ran the medical aid department of all of Soul Society. He was impressed with their work. What impressed him more was that kido was used for healing along with medical science. He noticed several tools and instruments he hadn’t seen before. Since he wasn’t well versed in medicine that wouldn’t be a strange thing, but the instruments looked alien in every sense of the word. There were some tools that looked like they were in fact parts of another organism, metallic and bone like parts with strange lights on them. The shinigami that made up the squad were constantly moving through the hallway, Arawn observed them from his bed. He couldn’t sleep, so lying down was all he was really doing. They had somehow fixed his glasses, so he could at least see around him. There was little to see in the plan room with a single window, so he closed his eyes and tried to relax.

After three hours he was given permission to leave back to his dorm. Arawn was nearly lost since the barracks area wasn’t familiar to him. Once he made it back to the dorm he sat at his desk and looked out the window. He reviewed the fight in his mind. He wondered what he could have done, and questioned all that he did. His goal had been met, but he had still lost. His plan had worked nearly perfectly, but he wondered what he could have done if it had not. Could such tricks be just as effective against the hollow monsters he would face as a shinigami? He pulled a piece of paper and a pen from the desk. On the paper he drew a pyramid. Clockwise from the top he wrote POWER, SPEED, and TACTICS. He looked at the paper for a moment and considered. “There’s no question to where I’m fall on this chart.” He says aloud. He circles the word Tactics on the paper. He draws an arrow from tactics towards the word speed. Next to the arrow he draws a circle. Next he draws an arrow from the word power towards the word tactics. Beside that arrow he draws an ‘X’. “Archaic but it works.” He rubs his healed but still sore body. He had taken many hits to land one blow. “Before I focus on my weaknesses I need to increase my main aspect.” He took out a second blank piece of paper, this one he wrote ‘Tactics’ at the top. What was tactics? Planning ahead, using what you have skillfully, any kind of technique, any kind of ability; the term itself was rather vague. Lacking power he had to devise ways to defeat those more powerful than himself. A mouse had to build a trap for a cat. He chuckled at the thought. Some power would be required, zanjutsu training was limited to his classes, but kido was an open avenue. He wrote ‘Kido’ and ‘Zanjutsu’ below the Tactics heading. This weekend he would try to practice with his reiryoku and reiatsu. He had managed one spell with imperfect control there was a chance he could perform more. The weekend would be busy indeed.
