| That morning a fine dew had settled over the grass. Sho was one for excerscise and got a bit in whenever he could. Today would be no different, as he gathered his things and his Zanpakuto, then left the dormitory, barefoot. The wet grass felt soothing beneath his feet as he walked through the grass and headed towards the track he had heard about. Walking barefoot had been something he did a lot, a way to train himself physically as well as mentally, making it harder for him to feel pain.
He arrived at the track and was surprised by the amount of people there. There were some just running laps, some racing, and some in the center of the field, practicing something. He watched a few instructors trying to teach the students in the field, and realized they were teaching Flash Step. He took note and wandered closer, wanting to get a firsthand look at this kind of speed.
He found the one that was doing best and looked at his actions carefully. He felt him concentrate his Reiatsu to his feet and then suddenly the guy was in motion, and moved at an incredible speed. In less than a second, he was on the other side of the field. Sho followed the movement and marvelled at it. He wondered how fast he'd be able to go when he finally learned. He walked onto the field, ready with a large arsenal of questions.
He walked over to the instructor, still watching the instructees. "How do they do that? When are you allowed to? Can they move fast enough that I couldn't see them?" he asked in rapid-fire fashion, then was stopped abruptly.
"What do you mean, so fast you can't see them?" asked the instructor.
Sho was confused. "Well, they're moving faster than anything I've ever seen. It's a little hard to follow, but I can still see them." he replied, trying to figure out why the instructor was smirking. Then suddenly the instructor disappeared, a blur to Sho's vision. He turned in the direction the blur was moving and then the instructor reappered where the blur stopped. The smirk on the instructors face turned into an all out grin as he disappeared again, this time not even blurring. Sho only saw a faint bit of color move incredibly fast to his left and he whirled around that way, just after the instructor reappeared.
"Well well well, you're a natural. Ever think of joinin' the 2nd Squad? They could use a guy like you."
"2nd Squad...?" asked Sho. He was still unfamiliar with what the Squads were for or what others represented.
"Haha, 2nd Squad is the Onmitsukido. Like... the human world Black Ops, or assassins." replied the instructor. Sho was immediately interested. He nodded and watched a bit more, then asked another question.
"Wait, what makes me a good member?" he asked, curious.
"I'm a 2nd Squad member. Flash Step is my specialty. You were able to keep a pin on my movements. That's a feat all its own. Most people can't even follow us with their eyes." replied the instructor.
Sho was in awe. His crooked grin slid onto his face and he walked away, contemplating this. He now had a squad he wanted to join, as well as a prospective talent, once he was allowed to learn it. He made his way off the track and to the Academy cafeteria for some food. He was ready for it all now, and would be thinking about the possibilities for weeks to come. | |
