Walking into the zanjutsu dojo it was exactly what he figured it would look like. It was a large building building that was rather sparse. There were a few tapestries on the walls and the floors were sleek and shined wood. Other then the various training dummies that were inside as well as the racks that housed the bokken that were used to practice with there was not much else. Walking inside he took a seat down where several of the other students were seated most likely waiting for the instructor. He sat down and waited patiently for the instructor to arrive for several minutes. Around him he listened to the conversations that the other students were having with one another. There was much of interest as they talked. Just mention of how skilled they thought they were and excited about receiving their zanpaktou. By the name zanpaktou he assumed it was a sword or blade of some sort. Since it was a zanjutsu dojo the zanpaktou must have also been the weapon that they would be learning to use appropriately. After another few minutes of waiting and thought filled moments within his head the instructor finally arrived at the dojo. The students all simultaneously bowed their heads showing respect to the teacher. Shinji quickly followed suit having been caught unprepared for this ritual. The instructor then waved a hand at the group and everyone returned their heads to their normal seated position. The instructor headed over to the wall that held the various bokken that the students would use to practice. "Everyone up and grab a bokken. Today will be some hands on training just so I can see where you are at in terms of skill." Instantly the students were up and moving across the room to grab a bokken to begin their practice. Some of the students were looking about trying to eye their pray. Shinji made his way over and grabbed one of the bokken. He held it out in front of him putting both of his hands on the handle. He held it in front of him getting a feel for his weapon and taking a few practice swings just to get in the motion. A few of the other students that were watching took this to seem almost like a threat. Mostly the students who thought that they were just the greatest swordsmen on the planet watched him as if it were a challenge to their skill. A few of them smiling and eying him just waiting to get their hands on him. Rolling his eyes he moved over to where the instructor was and waited for him to give out his next orders. "Everyone, get in a single file line and I'll call you up one by one for practice. You will spar with me for a bit just for me to test your skill. Expect to get banged up a bit but I'll make sure you leave in one piece." Shinji was a bit intrigued with what the instructor said. Eying up their teacher they both seemed to be about the same height and size. Seemingly to be roughly equal in power he figured that with his skill he might be able to beat him or at least spar to a tie. How mistaken he was as he had yet to truly understand how things worked in soul society. Shinji had no real comprehension of what reiatsu was or how to use it. The instructor was roughly four times as powerful as himself and he would never realize it till it was too late. Taking his spot in the line he eagerly awaited to go up against the teacher as the students continued to move up towards him one by one being easily beaten. He began to think that these other students were way too ****y for their own good. If they went down as easily as they did then why would they act like they had been. Shrugging it off he realized that it was now his turn. Moving up into the imaginary ring with his teacher the two bowed to one another and Shinji fell into his battle stance. He paced around a bit the two circling around before he rushed at his instructor with a thrust at his stomach. His teacher easily knocked aside the strike and lashed out at him with a diagonal attack at his chest. The strike was incredibly fast that Shinji was having a hard time even seeing the movement let alone manage to defend. He was struck hard across the test skidding back a few feet as he gripped his chest with his left hand. The strike was incredibly powerful as well, stronger then he had thought possible. Moving forward once more at his instructor Shinji made sure to be more careful this time. Thrusting forward at his teachers abdomen once again he quickly turned his attack upwards in a vertical strike along the right side of his instructors chest. Quickly moving away to the side of the strike with speed he had never seen before he suddenly realized he was being attacked once again with the teachers bokken coming in low at his left side. The blow struck hard against his side causing him to double over and topple onto his side on the ground. He got up slowly holding his side as the pain was quite great. If it had been any harder it might have been enough to break a few of his ribs. Considering that the end of his spar he bowed to his instructor who did the same and moved off to put his bokken away as the others had done. After taking a seat on the floor back where he had done before he watched as the rest of the students were beaten down one by one until everyone had gone a turn. Everyone groaned on the occasion and maneuvered to a more comfortable position to ease their pain. The instructor eventually came back out to dismiss the class until the next day. "Well, you all did well. Some of you did exceptional for being beginners with a bit of skill but aside from that nobody performed horribly. There are a few of you I expect to do better or you'll never manage to pass this class. Now, I expect to see all of you tomorrow same time for class. Class is dismissed." With that Shinji got up holding his side as he walked out of his dojo.
