Wings of the Dragon

In the vast white desert of Heuco Mundo, nothing is in sight except for the Shadow. The shadow which strikes fear in to those who are bound to the earth, the shadow that is the silhouette of death itself, the shadow of Ryuujin. High in the nearly cloudless sky of Heuco Mundo Ryuujin soars scouting for his next meal. Being able to fly makes it fairly easy for him to see smaller Hollow from quite a distance. However for several days now he has spotted nothing but sand. Ryuujin grows tired after having flew hundreds of miles in search of his supper. He finally gives up his search and dives towards the earth. Before reaching the ground he gives one last flap of his wings which softens his landing.

Ryuujin had landed near a withered tree, which is actually a form of Quartz. He begins gnawing on the branches draining however much Reishi he can from it. His hunger is overwhelming and mere twigs cannot satisfy him. He finishes his snack, and unleashes a terrifying roar in to the air, hoping to scare up some kind of rodent from the sands, yet nothing is revealed. Ryuujin begins to march forward, his stomach growling almost as loudly as he roared.

Suddenly, off in the distance Ryuujin notices a Shadow. However this shadow had no body. It glided over the sands as if it were a ghost. Ryuujin recognized this shadow, yet it confused him. The only bodiless shadow he was used to seeing was his own and only while he was flying. His incredible hunger had gotten to his head and he wasn't thinking straight. After a moment of wondering where its body was he suddenly had an epiphany. He realized that he was not the only Hollow with the ability to fly, and so he looked towards the sky. He saw a massive, feathered Hollow which was as big as a cow!. It had a long beak, and an aerodynamic body. It was obviously made for speed, unlike Ryuujin who was big and bulky.

Luckily, this hollow believed Ryuujin had not noticed him for it was also used to being the only thing in the sky. After the bird had passed, Ryuujin extended his wings and began to run towards it on foot and with one quick flap of his wings, and a thunderous whip of his tail he launched himself in to the air and began to pursue his prey. At first the bird did not notice Ryuujin, and was flying at a casual pace. Unfortunately Ryuujin could not control his excitement and unleashed another terrifying roar. The bird glanced back and starred in awe at the Dragon that was chasing him. It quickly swing its gaze back to the front and with one swift flap of its wings it was off, outrunning Ryuujin was easy for this agile bird of prey, however Ryuujin was not about to give up so easily. He flew as fast as he could and then faster, he was NOT going to let this one get away.

The bird quickly dived in to the ground, passing through a hole which was an entrance in to the Menos forest. Ryuujin knew of the dangers in that forest and dared not hunt there, but if he didn't he would most likely starve to death. It was either die of starvation, or chase this bird in to the forest. He chose the latter, and with another flap of his gigantic wings he gained some distance between him and the bird. The bird knew this, but it was slowing down for a reason. If it was to maneuver in and around the trees it couldn't be moving so fast. The two entered the dark forest and began swerving around tree after tree, the Bird having much better maneuverability than Ryuujin. The bird flew around a relatively thin tree, for the menos forest. Ryuujin saw this as an opportunity. He could finally use his brute strength to catch this damned bird. He lowered his head and with a strong flap of his wings he crashed in to the tree and managed to push through it. The bird was right in front of him! He was finally going to get his meal! He extended his neck and opened his mouth, the birds tail drifted back in to his mouth, yet before Ryuujin could bite down and insure his victory, the bird flapped its wings and sped back up to its original speed.

This angered Ryuujin greatly. He had his meal in his mouth and he let it walk right out! Ryuujins anger fueled him and he continued to chase the bird. Luckily they entered a part of the forest where all of the trees were relatively thin. While the bird was maneuvering around and between these trees, Ryuujin was using his brute force and charging through them all, gaining a great amount of distance. Finally, the two came to a large open area. The bird saw this as its chance to finally escape. With a swift flap of its wings it flew at a much faster speed than it had been going, a last effort to escape and hide. Ryuujin continued to chase it, however the bird was moving much too fast for him to catch. It seemed that he had lost his meal and would die in the forest as food for another Hollow.

The bird was moving so fast, it couldn't even control itself! It was approaching a very large tree and it couldn't move around it fast enough! It titled its body up and extended its wings slowing it down enough as to not crash. It landed on the side of the tree coming to a dead stop. It leaped from the tree to continue its escape however as it did so, it leaped right in to Ryuujins mouth! Ryuujin clamped his mouth shut and swallowed the Hollow whole. He could feel its power coursing through him. He had gained a greater speed from this prey and was sure that he would never loose a meal the same way!

Ryuujin had triumphed over that which would deny him. After feasting on the Hollw, Ryuujin felt refreshed, revitalized, and ready to hunt once again. However Ryuujin was unfamiliar with where he was. He had no idea that he was actually in the forest of Menos and what terrors it held in store. Ryuujin had no fear, and to announce his triumph he unleashed a terrifying roar which echoed loudly throughout the entire forest. Ryuujin extended his wings and with one swift flap he was off.

His newly attained speed was incredible to him, he had never flown at such speeds before even in a dive. Maneuvering around large trees would have been a great feat for Ryuujin, but now he was able to do it with relative ease. Not only his ability to go faster grew, but his general knowledge of flight. He now knew how the air flowed and how gravity pulled. With this knowledge he'd be able to hunt down Hollows much easier. However what he didn't know, was that he had woken the Menos. The Menos which ruled that part of the forest, the Menos which sleeps for centuries at a time, the Menos that would surely kill him if he stayed much longer.

Ryuujin was in awe at his speed and was not paying attention to the shifting shadows in the distance. He assumed they were just more trees that looked like they were moving as he did, but that wasn't so. As he approached the shifting shadows Ryuujin became more and more suspicious of them. Despite having greater speed, he decided to slow down. As he drew closer, he saw white. This white was not a light at the end of the tunnel, but the mask of a Gillian class Menos. The Menos roared in anger, which was the only emotion it knew and extended its long neck towards the approaching Ryuujin and attempted to swallow him whole. Ryuujin however turned a hundred and eighty degrees and began flying in the opposite direction. A new ability he recently obtained and has already proven useful. The Menos roared yet again, this time not in anger, but to call the other Menos to his aid.

All shadows soon began to shift. Ryuujin, for the first time in a very long time felt the emotion he hated most, Fear. He feared that he may not escape this forest even with his newly attained speed. He feared that not only would he die, he would become a part of such moronic Gillian class menos. He wouldn't allow himself to become such a thing and so he pushed forward, through the shifting shadows that were the Gillian. He flew past many Gillian without them even noticing he had passed. After realizing that he was no longer where they thought he was, the Gillian quickly turned and chased him. The Gillian were surprisingly fast and were gaining on Ryuujin. Not only were they gaining on him, but more were quickly appearing ahead of him. The cries of those behind him were drawing the attention of more ahead of him.

Very soon, he saw more white. To him it was the color of his death, the color which he must avoid at all costs. The Menos were flooding the forest, making it seem like one endless hall of shadow. Soon, many of the Gillian began firing Cero at Ryuujin. This being Ryuujins first taste of Cero, had struck fear in to him. He managed to evade many of their Cero, some were a bit too close for comfort. A moment later, Ryuujin saw something in the distance. Another glimmer of white, however this was not the mask of a Menos. It was the light at the end of the tunnel! What he saw was the moon over Heuco Mundo in the perfect place to shine through the hole created by one of the Gillian Cero.

Ryuujin flaps his wings and was off, making his way towards the light. He was approaching it fast, Ryuujins heart was jumping out of his throat, was going to live! Suddenly, one of the hundreds of Menos chasing him extends its arm towards Ryuujin and manages to grab his very long tail causing Ryuujin to come to a complete stop. Ryuujins freedom was ripped away from him, he knew that he was going to die. Ryuujin thought to himself, he could not allow such a mindless beast end his life. How could such a thing end the life of the Dragon Ryuujin!? His pride would not allow it! He was superior! Ryuujin swiftly extended his neck towards the wrist of the Menos and bit it! biting off a large chunk of flesh from the menos' wrist. The pain the Menos felt caused it to release Ryuujin and with a swift flap of his wings he was off!

Ryuujin flew to the light at the end of the tunnel and escaped the forest of Menos with his life and a piece of the Menos Grande. He devoured the piece, and felt its power surge through his body making him even more powerful. His heart raced from the excitement of almost loosing his life. Ryuujin was overjoyed! He had lived.
