| Name: Riku Lamasajii Age: 17 Birthplace: Karakura Town Looks: Jet black hair, dropping to the very bottom of his neck with the fringe parted to the right of his face, as well as dark blue eyes, and very pale skin, all three of which contrast eachother.
He stands at about 5''3, so he isn't particularly tall, and wears a white, high-collared shirt covering most of his neck, with the top 3 buttons open, and a large black circle on the back, with the word "Eikyou" written in white. He has plain black, baggy tracksuit bottoms, black fingerless gloves and white trainers with a thick, navy stripe down the front.
He only wears the trainers in school however, so when at home or other casual locations, he wears dark brown sandals, and instead of the shirt he wears a plain white T-Shirt. Personality: In Riku's eyes, defeating an opponent is not the same thing as killing an opponent, so he often tries to spare even the strongest of enemies, making him slightly Naive. The only opponents he would feel joy in killing, are the Hollows, partly because his brother was a Shinigami, but also because he doesn't pity them after all the souls they've devoured and the pain they bring in their presence.
It is Riku's dream to become a Shinigami eventually, as through physical contact with a Hollow when he was 10, he gained the ability to see Shinigami, Hollows etc, and he learned that his brother who died when Riku was 9 had become one, so when his brother was defeated in battle, he became a Hollow who, to this day, has not been caught by any Shinigami, so Riku feels obligated to not only follow in his brother's footsteps, but also to put him out of his blood-thirsty misery.
Riku alway remains calm in a fight, and there are only ever 2 possible exceptions to this. Either when he's fearing greatly fo his life, or when he's having far too much fun. In both situations, emotion can begin to cloud his judgement, which goes against his "Code". In a fight, he tries to think his way to victory, and fight with agility. His mind, and his agility have always been the key to his fighting skill. Gender: Male Occupation: Student at Karakura School, and in his spare time he writes novels and poems. He had also trained in Wu-Shu, Thaiboxing and Capoeira. Special Characteristics: Due to his training in some more advanced martial arts, Riku has high agility and speed for a human. He also has very strong senses of sound and smell due to his time in the countrside. Race: Asian
Special Powers
General Power: Riku's ultimate ability is his "Vanguard Form". In this state, spike-shaped bones stretch from his elbows and knees, as well as 2 particularly long spikes which stretch from the top of his back. His skin turns even paler, and a long, thin red line stretches down from each eye, down as far as his chin.
Riku's strength, agility and fighting skills are enhanced, however his intelligence becomes lacking, changing his mind from strategic and deductive, to head-on and aggresive. He also gains a set of Techniques called "Vanguard Kai Jutsu", (Vanguard Release Techniques) which are Explosion-based attacks, which are performed through the use of 3 powerful Senbon, each with its own techniques. The Senbon are rumoured to have been used by an Arrancar 350 years ago. Techniques/Abilities: Name: Vanguard Dome Description: This is Riku's most powerful attack. No matter how much one trains the other 3 Vanguard attacks, this will ALWAYS be the strongest, as it cannot be trained, but instead, its power depends on the power of the user. A large Barrier forms around the user, which inflicts massive pain throughout their body, and causes them to become mentally unstable. The dome SEEMS like it's meant to be a shielding technique, but in fact, the user will eventually explode with energy that overloaded their body, and at that point, the barrier will also explode, releasing 2 massive bursts of power which join into one, annihalating anything in their path, making it a VERY hard attack to survive.
As mentioned, the power and radius of the attack depends on the user. Needless to say, this is a one-time suicide attack.
Name: Vanguard Bullets Description: A set of small orbs of energy launch from the user's fingertips, which, upon contact with a solid object, will explode with small bursts. Alone, a bullet is useless, but multiple bullets shot at one target can deal very heavy damage.
Name: Vanguard Wave Description: The user swings their arm swiftly, which is foreshadowed by a wave of explosive energy which launches from the arm. The wave can cut through bone, and once it slices through a solid object, there is a 2 split second delay before it explodes. Obviously, if ann opponent has been sliced through, they will find it very hard to dodge, and will probably see no need to, since they usually wouldn't expect an explosion the first time.
The initial wave is relatively easy to dodge however, except for at close range.

History: Childhood Riku grew up like any other orphan in Karakura Town. His father had walked out when he was born, and his mother died in a car accident just 2 years later, leaving Riku and his brother Hiro to go through the harshness of the Orphanage.
At 7 years old, Riku would often be bullied in the orphanage, but Hiro always stood up for him, as he was 12, and more than capable of taking on the others. Plus they only had eachother then. Riku and Hiro continued to attend Karakura School, and Riku took up Thaiboxing and Wu-Shu, while a friend of his from the orphanage from Brazil taught him Capeoira. He had to find SOME way of defending himself.
When Riku turned 9, and Hiro 14, the pair walked to their new foster home after school. There, they encountered a Hollow. They ran and ran, but couldn't lose the invisible monster that was chasing them, so in a desperate bid to save his younger brother, Hiro dragged Riku to safety, but knowing that the monster would follow, he left Riku unconscious in someone's garden, and confronted the beast, leading it away from Riku. This way, Riku couldn't follow them.
Needless to say, Hiro was torn apart by the Hollow, but a pair of Shinigami arrived not long after, defeating the beast, and allowing Hiro to pass on. Riku was left injured and confused, trying to get back to the foster family. The next day, Hiro's body was found, but nobody believed Riku's crazy story, and scorned him for makng his brother's death into a sick joke. Wounded in his heart, he ran. Ran back to the orphanage. The place that Riku and Hiro were together for the longest amount of time. Thankfully, the staff were sympathetic, and allowed him back in, and when hassled by the others, Riku discovered a new-found viciousness in his heart and lashed out, standing up for himself. Nobody but he to protect him. That's when Hiro's death really hit him.
Ode to the spirit At age 10, Riku was excited about his upcoming birthday and had been wandering Karakura Town with friends, when he felt a strange presence nearby. He wasn't able to see or sense Spirits, even after his encounter which led to Hiro's death, but he knew something wasn't right, and told the group he had something to do. Tracing this "Feeling" of his to the source, he was astonished by a thundering blow to the back, which sent him soaring through the air into a pile of boxes.
A fight raged, with the Hollow lashing out, and Riku doing his best to dodge, though of course since he couldn't see it, dodging was much harder than it should have been, though as it continued, faint traces of the Hollow became visible, and eventually, Riku was able to throw objects lying around at it, dealing little to no damage whatsoever, however he continued to do it anyway. Fighting an impossible fight.
As the fight moved around to alleys and roads nearby, Riku eventually armed himself with a dagger, giving him..... practically no avantage at all. With the odds Really in his favour, he found himself wounded in several places, and almost completely worn out, but when he passed an old building named "Uruhara's Shop", there lay a sign reading "Have Fun", with 3 Senbon beside it. Riku, in desperation, and exhaustion, picked up the 3 Senbon, attempting to throw them when he found himself enveloped with anger. Pain flooded through his body, and h found himself transforming from a mist that flowed from the Senbon, forming shapes on his person.
Riku found himself capable of seeing the beast relatively clearly at that point, and with a quick, powerful punch to the beast's mask, it staggered back, falling to the ground. At that moment, Riku leaped at the beast, pouncing onto its head, and driving the dagger into the centre of the mask. He continuously stabbed at the monster, until it eventually just... faded away. It was gone like that, and Riku was left in a baffled state, with no understanding of the events that had occurred, but all he could do was brush it off. After a traumatic event like that, he had to continue like nothing had happened.
Reunion... Weeks after the event with the Hollow, Riku saw Spirits all around the town. He knew something was wrong.... that something was happening.... and seeing his brother confirmed this. As his 11th birthday drew ever closer, being only days away, Riku sensed yet another Hollow presence. Confident in his new-found abilities, he chased it down, where he found it fighting a Shinigami. A young teenager. Or more specifically, Hiro. His brother.
Hiro struggled with the Hollow until Riku began helping him, where the 2 easily dispatched it. Hiro knew that the situation was bad, and that he needed to go, but seeing Riku again made him stay. He shouldn't have, but he felt obligated to tell Riku the whole story, inspiring excitement in his young heart. The 2 talked for hours on end, but Hiro eventually had to go. They both knew it, and didn't like it, but it had to be this way.
Mere months later, Riku discovered Hiro's body..... again. ..And Loss Riku of course, had no idea of what to do. He wasn't a Shinigami, and there didn't seem to be any coming. A chain ran through his brother's chest, and he sat in agony, the chain seemingly "Eating" away at itself. What reaction occurred to Riku? He was no Shinigami. He was no champion. He was no warrior. No hero.
Running. Running to find something. What was it? Even he didn't know. Riku had no way of contacting a Shinigami, and feared what was happening. He knew that SOMETHING had to happen when the chain was gone. SOMETHING. But there was no way of knowing what. ~Maybe his soul will... be lost f-forever..?~ Riku thought to himself. It was the only deduction he could make.
Riku could do nothing but mourn for his brother, as he knew that if nobody helped him, then they'd never see eachother again. That's what he thought. He was wrong. Awakening Riku understood that his life wasn't like anyone else's. He wouldn't be like the others in school or in the orphanage, even though they all wanted to be his friend after hs sudden stroke of a baddass attitude that came when Hiro died. He couldn't allow it. He wouldn't put innocent people at risk, so he packed his things and ran away from the town, heading to the outskirts of Karakura. In the new sense of safety for him AND his friends, Riku began to relax while continueing to mourn. Days passed, and finally the time came. He met his brother again.
Huge, white mask. Black, mist-like body in the shape of a toad like creature. Long, ripping talons digging into the ground. Spiny, bone-like spikes jutting from the shoulders. Riku would be able to tell a Hollow from a mile away, and instinctively, he charged at the beast, clutching his dagger which he now considered lucky, and had a pouch for it on his trousers. He dived towards the Hollow, making sure it wouldn't absorb another soul, he swiped quickly, and lethaly at its mask, but it was faster than the others, and dodged backwards before dragging its leg up, swatting Riku several metres away.
He desperately tried to release his power, but nothing happened. The beast lunged at him, but he could still do nothing to defend, so he attempted to dodge. The beast, being over 3 times the size of Riku, still drove a punch into his gut, which sent Riku soaring against a tree, followed by the beast leaping at him yet again, with the intent of ramming its mask into Riku. In even more desperation, Riku tried force energy out of him, that he didn't have, but as the beast crashed into his body, leaving him limp and weak, and flying through multiple trees, Riku felt the change yet again, and the power built up again within his body.
The beast approached at tremendous speed, and although it was confused by Riku's transformation, he proceeded with its finishing punch aimed right at Riku's face. Riku dug his heels into the ground, sliding momentarily in the dirt, before sprinting at the Hollow with his right fist pulled back and ready to thrust. The two nearly crashed into eachother, with violent excitement that had caused them to forget to punch, when Riku swung his arm forward, not only punching the beast's mask, but also accidently releasing a barrage of explosive orb into it, causing most of the mask to crumble, revealing the face beneath it.
It staggered back in confusion, pain and fear, returning to whatever world it came here from. The beast escaped. The Hollow escaped. It escaped. Hiro escaped.
Rik fell to his knees, and spent many hours simply sitting... thinking. Wondering. Most people would have blamed the Shinigami for not saving Hiro, but Riku knew it would do no good. He could train and train and try for revenge, but if he failed, he'd be failing himself AND Hiro. Instead, he swore that he himself would become a Shinigami. He wasn't completely sure of the details, but he would do it. He'd make sure that nobody he knew ever had to go through the same trauma as he, and also made a promise in blood, that he would put his brother out of his misery.
From that day, Riku has spent his time hunting minor Hollows, and training, so that he would someday be powerful enough to even AID the Shinigami in defeating stronger Hollows. Hiro however, would be an opponent for Riku, and ONLY Riku.
Role Playing Sample: Riku stared up at the afternoon sun, its warm embrace barely shining through the faint gaps between the leaves. The calm lake, and lowly singing birds acted only as background noises, in their surprising level of silence. As he progressed down the track, there came to be less and less birds, and the running lake's noise faded gradually, leaving his shoes scraping against the dirt below to be the only sound within earshot.
The rustling of leaves didn't bother Riku like they would most people. He had grown used to the sounds and sights of the countryside through his time spent in solitary, away from the keystones of civilisation. He could tell the difference between the movement of a rabbit, and the movement of a human. Suddenly, all the sounds of the country echoed at once, startling Riku. Animals stormed fearfully to shelter, and the crushing of the ground overpowered that of the lake or birds, though faint as they were.
Riku calmed himself, understanding the threat that awaited him. He rose his head from its gaze at the dirt, bringing it level with the orange horizon awaiting him. Steadily, he turned his body around to face the foe. The same white mask. The black misty body. It was undeniably a Hollow, so drawing his dagger, he began his transformation into his Vanguard Form. They charged. Preparing to destroy eachother as quickly as possible. Riku leapt with his dagger in the air. The beast stormed him from below, so he drove the knife into its hip.
A fight commenced, just like any other day in Riku's newfond life.
