PostSubject: Becoming Competent at Handling One's Stick (LOL No pun intended)   Thu Jul 30, 2009 1:24 am

Kaito walked into the academy student sparring area, his blue and white apprentice robes flowing around him as he walked slowly and without much purpose since he wasn't really interested in the training that he was going to be involved in at the time, "If I had known that things were going to be this difficult...I would have just hidden out in Rukongai" he said as he scratched his head. The only reason he continued trying so desperately to gather the skills needed to graduate was because he had seen something interesting in one of the stores that were lined among the Sereitei market strip, but being a graduate student there was no way that he was going to have enough money to buy it so once he became a shinigami he would have the money to do it, but it was more than he had bargained for.

He now entered the sparring grounds hoping that someone would come out and come to teach him what the hell he was supposed to do with a kendo stick. Scratching his head in annoyance of the entire situation Kaiyo waltzed over to some training posts he had seen at the corner of the grounds. Since he was quite tall and his reiatsu was a bit beyond that of the average academy student people kept assuming that he was some great swordsmen, but the truth was that he had absolutely no fighting skill hence why he watched the battle so closely all the time; he didn't have the skills to haphazardly leap into battle. Breathing deeply he focused himself and firmly gripped the kendo stick in his hand. Swinging, he struck the dummy at the base of the neck, where the shoulders were connected to the neck.

He realized that his swing was not efficient in it power, so then he focused his sights on the same spot that he had just previously struck. This time he placed his feet shoulder width apart and thrust his shoulders and hips into the swing, feeling the change in the difference of the attack. "Well, at least I looked someone competent on that swing" he thought to himself as he prepared to repeat the movement with even more efficiency and power. The power that reverberated from his hips and his shoulders, giving birth to even a greater level of proficiency at striking with the kendo stick. Beads of sweat began to form on Kaito's forehead as he prepared to swing once again. Finally he struck the training dummy with such force that his shoulders went numb and he decided to take a break. While he wasn't doing completely terrible Kaito really wished that he had someone here to supervise his training.

Holding the kendo stick in front of his body once again Kaito examined the training dummy as he focused his mind upon the placement of his strikes since one of his main problems was that he couldn't maintain too many combination strikes at one time yet. "Here we go" he said gruffly as he slashed once again at the dummy's torso and then quickly spun, dragging the tip of the stick through the ground causing the dust to rise of the ground in an angry cloud. Once he had completed his turn he brought the kendo stick over his shoulder and tried to slash through the shoulder of the dummy, but he was off balance from his spinning and he ended up striking the arm rather than the torso of the dummy causing he stumble backwards a couple of steps. Kaito stared at the dummy arm and then looked to his zanpakutou that he had obtained very recently thanks to his efforts to get stronger, "I can never wield that thing if I all i do is stumble backwards every time I try to use more than one strike" he complained to himself as he looked at the dummy with frustration and boredom.

Kaito walked closer once again and brought his kendo stick over his head, "This time I will start from the top" he decided as he brought the blade down with all his force. He felt the familiar resistance of the dummy's body and he also felt the vibration spread through the body of the dummy, but he paid no attention to these things as he was only focused on the movements he was making. Removing the kendo stick from the head of the dummy Kaito drew the kendo stick's hilt towards him as he prepared to thrust towards the dummy. Again Kaito felt the impact that came with the striking of the dummy's body with the amount of force that he had struck it with. "That's just two, let's see if we can go for three" he thought as he once again spun trying to gather momentum to increase the amount of damage that he would do to the dummy if only here were accurate.

There was a slow motion moment where Kaito could feel and see everything was within his speed and ability to do as he adjusted his hips during the turn as he prepared to make the strike, "What is this?" he wondered as he made the turn. Suddenly everything returned to its normal speed and Kaito was surprised, in fact he was so surprised that his strike was once again errant as it struck the side of the dummy's head and not the intended torso that Kaito had been looking for. "Dammit" he cursed himself again as he let the tip of the kendo stick fall to the dust of the training ground. He sighed as closed his eyes and raised his back in sheer boredom with trying to improve himself in this manner anymore. Kaito was so irritated with the whole idea of having to try and improve all these abilities of his just so that he could get the nod from his instructor.

It bugged him that he couldn't figure it out, but it seems that no matter what he tried he couldn't control the state of mind to execute the proper amount of slashes into his combination. Then he thought about what had just occurred with the entire world seeming to slow down and he came up with another idea to figure out how he could improve his sword fighting ability. Picking up the kendo stick once again he closed his eyes and focused not on the dummy, but he focused on the kendo stick in his hand. Trying to connect with the stick to the point that it was no longer a stick in his hand rather it was a part of his being that was just like his hand. There was a change in the air around him as he opened his eyes once again and turned to the dummy.

With the new control over the movement of his body Kaito held the kendo stick in one hand as he held the stick to the side of him and quickly slammed the edge of the kendo stick into the torso of the dummy, but he didn't pause there like he normally would and once again the world seemed to slow down around him. His stick felt like nothing in his hand as he spun, this time he positioned his body to so that he would be able to strike more readily once he was facing the dummy once again. The strike that he launched landed squarely upon the torso of the dummy's body and the dummy shook violently as if it were trying to emphasize how powerful the strike had been. Despite Kaito's happiness, he didn't stop there as he took his arm out and then launched another vicious one-handed slash to the neck of the dummy's body. After that he leaped into the air and brought another slash down upon the head of the dummy with very little effort which apparently was enough because the dummy shook violently once again. He was happy that he finally understood the sword fighting to better extent as he walked over to the bench and planted his butt on the bench.

Kaito decided that he had enough sitting and got up, but he knew that there was really no point in going over to the training dummies again since he hadn't really gotten the most improvement out of that. In his mind he thought that it would serve him better to work power before technique since he really didn't have much skill for sword fighting. He saw a stump that was sitting in the far left corner of the training grounds and he got an idea of how he could improve his power in the fastest manner. Sauntering over to the stump, Kaito quickly began to think of what the basis of his training would be, "So...I guess the training is successful when I split the stump...Damn that's going to be troublesome" he guessed as he made his way to the clearing. Once he reached the stump he took his kendo stick and rubbed it against the wood to get the feel of what he was about to cut.

Gathering reiatsu into his hand and into the kendo stick he was holding, Kaito brought the stick over his head, "I hope this works out well..." he hoped unenthusiastically. Bringing down the stick with all his might, Kaito looked up to find that the stump didn't have so much as a scratch on it and he sighed, "This is insane, how am I supposed to get better if that's the best I can do?" he asked himself. Again bringing the kendo stick over his head, Kaito let out a deep breath and swung down as hard as he could, but to no avail. This time he didn't stop to complain instead he simply looked at the stump with a determined glint in his eye as he raised the kendo stick above his head once again. Pouring reiatsu that flowed up into his arms and into the kendo stick, Kaito felt the difference in his connection with the stick in his hand and he smiled as he brought the stick crashing down upon the stump in front of him.

While it wasn't the result that Kaito had been looking for, he was a little pleased to see that the stump had at least cracked at the point where he had struck it. He didn't mind that it was only a little crack as he raised the stick above his head once again in preparation to strike the stump with all the might that he possessed within his being, "One way or another I'm going to cut this stump" he told himself determinedly. Instead of just channeling wanton reiatsu into his arm and the kendo stick this time, Kaito focused on trying to sharpen his reiatsu before he swung down with the kendo stick. Once he felt that it was sharp enough, Kaito stared daggers into the stump in front of him as he brought down the stick with as much force as he could. Letting out a yell as he did so, Kaito felt the difference in the resistance of the stump as his stick made contact with it; the stump didn't feel as hard as before, rather it simply felt like a thick liquid.

A smile spread across Kaito's face, he didn't even need to see the damage that had been done to the stump to know that he had improved slightly. He looked up to see a huge indentation in the stump that lay before him, "So that's how its done" he realized, "It's not so much swinging the sword down with all your might, but it is instead focusing your reiatsu into a blade that is similar to the weapon you are holding" he noted. Raising the kendo stick above his head yet again, Kaito gathered his reiatsu into the stick and his arm once again, sharpening it as much as he could. "Let's see what happens when you pour in mass amounts of reiatsu that has been sharpened to the max" Kaito said in a voice thick with reiatsu. Swinging downward once again, Kaito roared as he exerted extreme effort trying to cut down the stump in front of him. Once he had brought down the blade Kaito began to breath heavily from the exertion of pushing so hard, but as he looked at the stump in front of him his eyes widened in surprise.

The stump now had a huge crevice that went down the middle of it, "I did that?" Kaito asked himself as he assessed the damage from the attack that he had just performed. "No...I have to cut it completely, this isn't enough" he said as he struggled to his feet once more. Gathering his reiatsu into the kendo stick, this time not trying to focus upon sharpening the blade, rather he wanted to focus on making his reiatsu strong enough to cut through the wood, but also even enough that there where no areas that were cut less than other areas. It was hard for him to concentrate since his body had already been pushed to the limit from the previous attempts, but Kaito wouldn't back down as he continued to gather his reiatsu for one last heavy attack. Finally he held the stick above his head, the reiatsu completely concentrated and ready for him to cut with. He swung down for the last time and watched as his reiatsu not only split the stump completely, but it also split the ground that the stump was rooted to. "Nice..." Kaito murmured as he laid down on the broken stump.

(OCC: The fight with the hollow didn't really happen, Kaito was just looking for a creative way to get in his sword training. Judge as you will. Thank you.)

Kaito woke up slumped over the stump that he had been practicing on earlier, having just learned to sharpen his reiatsu Kaito felt that he should have practice putting it together in battle. It was a good idea except for the fact that Kaito had slept on the stump until night time and everyone had taken off already, "What am I going to do now?" he asked out loud as he scratched his head looking around trying to figure something out. The best idea that he could come up with was to simply simulate a scenario where he would have to confront an enemy with nothing, but his sword fighting capabilities although in truth he would never allow himself to be in that situation. "Now all I have to do is think up a scenario, where that situation would apply" Kaito wondered to himself as he wandered in circles around the training area trying to come up with something worthwhile. Tapping his chin, Kaito thought long and hard as he racked his brain in the moonlight until he finally came up with a scenario that he liked, "Here we go" he thought as he readied his kendo stick.

"I guess it would be kind of lame if I didn't have a decent plot to go along with the training" he chuckled to himself as he quickly tried to come up with a scenario. Kaito knew that it was a bit strange for a potential shinigami to go around pretending he is in a fight when he actually is not, but he also knew himself well enough to know that if he didn't give it a good storyline that he would pack it in and go to sleep. That's just the kind of person Kaito was and in truth he was fine with that because he felt like life was alot easier that way since he didn't really have too much to worry about. "I guess the scenario will start off with me lying down enjoying the night sky..." Kaito began piecing the story together, "And then suddenly a hollow came and attacked me. Yea, that seems like a decent enough start" Kaito told himself as he took his position on the ground. He sighed as he stared up at the night sky, he hated that he had to do all this just for graduation, but he also wanted to graduate so he was doing whatever he could to achieve those means.

Kaito quickly stood up and frowned as he calmly evaluated his opponent. The hollow wasn’t very big so Kaito was not worried about being overpowered in strength and he was almost certain that the hollow wasn’t a Menos since he had heard those were a lot bigger than the scrawny thing in front of him. Luckily since Kaito was bent on obtaining shikai as quickly as possible he carried his zanpakutou (kendo stick) everywhere. At this Kaito pulled out his kendo stick and imagined that it was his zanpakutou (kendo stick) so that he could face the imaginary hollow, "I feel so lame..." kept running through his head, but he continued on with the story line lest he lose his focus. He drew his zanpakutou (kendo stick) slowly out of his sheath and frowned even harder as his heart beat began to accelerate due to the impending battle that he was going to face. He took his stance and rushed towards the hollow.

The imaginary hollow was quick in its reaction and used one of its eight legs in order to counter-attack Kaito’s initial assault. Kaito calmly parried the hollow's attempt and in the process gained an idea of how strong his opponent was, “Hollow, if you can understand me you should go back to wherever the hell you came from.” he cautioned the beast. He sheathed his blade (kendo stick) and began to walk towards the Rukongai area so he could return home. The hollow roared completely giving away its attack and Kaito quickly turned to face his assailant with a look a complete disinterest, “Well if that’s how you want it then the next three moves is how long it will take for you to die” Kaito declared. The hollow lunged, but Kaito spun away and counted off, “1”. The hollow quickly regained its balance from its initial attack and used two of its hind legs to attack Kaito, but he ducked while counting off, “2”. At this point the hollow was completely off balance and was in no position to defend itself as Kaito brought his blade (kendo stick) right underneath the hollow’s chin. “3”, Kaito smoothly said as he thrust through the hollow’s skull and the beast disappeared.

Kaito sat down on the earth, waiting for his breath to calm down a little before he walked back to the academy sleeping area. "Man, that was one pain in the ass skit..." he complained to himself as he started to get up so that he could come back tomorrow to hopefully get his last bits of training in so that he could graduate. As he walked with his arms placed inside his academy robes, Kaito couldn't help, but decide whether or not he was going to wake early in the morning to come and train. He laughed because he knew that there was really no chance of him waking up early in the morning to train, but he also got serious when he thought about how far he still had to go before he graduated.

PostSubject: Re: Becoming Competent at Handling One's Stick (LOL No pun intended)   Sun Aug 02, 2009 9:50 pm

Kaito's body felt a bit sore from his training yesterday and he didn't really feel like waking up so he tossed in his bed in excess of half an hour before finally convincing himself that he should get dressed and get some training down otherwise he wouldn't graduate. He could feel that his time to graduate would be coming very shortly and that things were finally looking up for him, "Finally I'll be able to get one of those bamboo blow pipes that I have been eyeing for the longest time" he thought as he lazily tied his academy robes into place. He knew that all of that would be relying on his ability to graduate and that meant that he had to improve his sword fighting or else he would be in trouble and there would be no bamboo blowpipes for him. Twitching his nose at that thought, Kaito emerged from his room and headed to the training center for another shot at improving his skills as a swordsmen. Once he arrived at the training area for swordsmen Kaito saw all the other academy students that were working on the post and decided that it would be better if he worked on trying to cut the trees as he had initially planned.

Making his way to the corner that he had trained at yesterday, Kaito found a tree that was nice and sturdy, "My goal for today should probably be to cut down this tree, but I'm not sure how successful I'm gonna be" he mused as he tapped his chin with his index finger. Kaito shrugged his shoulders and unsheathed his zanpakutou; he had brought it especially for this training along with his kendo stick since he hadn't really planned on sparring with anyone in the first place. Focusing himself and synchronizing himself with the blade, Kaito closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them his reiatsu was completely focused and at its peak, "Time to cut..." he said to himself. Instead of forcing the blade into a slash with all his might Kaito gracefully executed a stroke as if he were writing with a pen; the slash was elegant yet firm in its intent. Bark flew everywhere including into Kaito's eye once he had finished his cut so he shielded his eyes by putting his arms up until he heard the bark stop dropping to the ground.

Once he figured it was safe to take a look at his work, Kaito was not completely happy with how the slash had turned out since it hadn't severed the tree as he had wanted it to, "A little more..." Kaito murmured under his breath. Holding his right hand, which held the blade, across his body, Kaito once again focused his reiatsu into a sharp blade that outlined the sword in his hand, "Smooth and fluent...that's what that wash out had said" he reminded himself. In a quick motion the blade flashed across his body, the sunlight glinting off of it making it seem as if a firefly had just flitted past Kaito. Peering at the slash that he had left this time around, Kaito could tell that he had almost gotten it down right because rather than the jagged cut that he had produced on his first attempt the one now was much more refined. This meant that more of the reiatsu that Kaito had focused into the blade went into the cut than flickering off as wanton energy. Although this progress was good, Kaito knew that he had to make it great or else there was no point in training as hard as he was.

Taking his stance once again Kaito readied himself to strike at the tree again as he put his blade arm across his body and began to gather reiatsu, "Smooth and fluent" Kaito cautioned himself. Building up the reiatsu in his body until Kaito could feel it bubbling up inside of him to the point of exploding within his body, "Just a little more...concentrate...concentrate" he kept telling himself. It seemed as if his reiatsu was a river that was flowing against a dam wall and all that had to be done was take down the dam wall to unleash the full fury of the river's power, but Kaito had to hold on just a while longer. Breathing in rhythm with his heartbeat Kaito lashed out quickly, it was so quick that it seemed as if Kaito had simply waved his arm and had missed the tree completely. Kaito knew better than this as the bark began to make cracking noises signaling that he had done it right, "Alright, I'm almost there..." Kaito panted out as he got ready to take one more stand against the tree.

The reiatsu this time could visibly be seen glinting off of the blade as Kaito took his stance and began concentrating on the reiatsu that was within his body once again, "This will be the largest cut of them all" he thought. Whipping the blade from around his body, Kaito slashed in an diagonal direction starting from the left, but the tree simply slid a few feet down towards the ground. He didn't want to take credit for his ability at cutting down trees since he really wasn't any good at them in the first place. Suddenly the shadow caused by the sun was blocked out and a little dirty haired kid said to him, "W-Would you like to spar?" the boy asked without any type of manners. The boy seemed to nervous and thought about the downsides of getting into a fight for no reason, "I'll try and out preform this kid in our deal since everyone I have gone against thus far is stronger than me. Turning to the boy, Kaito said "Sure, I would love to spend time to dueling you" Kaito responded back to the boy.

Kaito looked at the person who was asking him for a sparring match, "...Geez...I guess I have no choice here" Kaito said rhetorically. Standing up straight, Kaito tried to work on catching his breath before he responded to the other academy student's request. Finally he heaved a breath one final time, "Well, I see no reason not to" he said as he walked past the boy and to the center of the training area, "Sides I have been waiting for a chance to test what I have learned against an actual persons" he said over his shoulder with out turning to face the shinigami. The kid followed Kaito silently and once they reached the center, Kaito walked a few more spaces away from the other student. Turning around Kaito immediately began to analyze the person across from his to see if there was anything that he could see as an outstanding threat or weakness, but the kid just smiled evilly. "Dammit...you're that kid that tricks people into fights and then crushes them with incredible skill, huh? Oh ...great" Kaito complained. He was not happy about this.

Without waiting for another word the other kid pulled out his kendo stick and Kaito prepared to take on the full brunt of the attack coming at him as he braced his legs into the ground. The spun the stick in his hand and then brought the stick down in an overhead swing which Kaito easily countered with and underhanded upper slash, "That was easy..." he thought as he watched the kid stammer back startled. The kid stopped and said, "My name is Dosu. Remember that's the name you are gonna lose to" he said as he pointed a confident finger at Kaito. Kaito simply flicked something out of his ear instead of responding to the kid and he could see that his lack of emotion was making this Dosu character angry, but he didn't care. Dosu dashed at Kaito once again, this time running in a zig zag pattern in order to get Kaito to hesitate, but Kaito was ready for anything the kid had to dish out.

Finally Dosu came slashing at Kaito with everything he had, breaking away from the zig zag formation that he had been trying to confuse Kaito with, "Big mistake" Kaito said in a low voice as he ducked underneath Dosu's first swing. Quickly capitalizing upon the opponent's inability to attack Kaito pivoted on his right foot and twisted as he threw a vicious slash at Dosu's torso. Dosu blocked the attack with his kendo stick at the last second, but he was pushed back from the force of the attack as well. Seeing this put Kaito on the attack and he leaped at the proud Dosu and struck once with an overhead strike and then twice more with two thrusts to the torso. He decided he would add the finishing blow to the mix as he leaped into the air and allowed his reiatsu to flow with the kendo stick, drawing out the max potential of his fighting ability as he came back down towards Dosu.

Bringing the kendo stick down with all the might that he could muster, Kaito knew that Dosu wouldn't win even before the blow fell upon the kid. The two sticks impacted with a resounding cracking noise and Dosu was forced to a knee from the weight of the attack, but Kaito wasn't done yet. "Don't think that because I'm in the air there's no way that I can increase the power of my attack" he thought as he stared at Dosu's demeanor that would hint any signs of deceit. There was none so Kaito breathed and contracted his abdominal muscles as he pushed down even harder on Dosu than he had before, finally dropping the boy to both knees. Then Dosu's strength gave out on him and the kendo stick came crashing down upon his head knocking him unconscious. Kaito looked the kid laying on the ground with a complete lack of interest and shrugged his shoulders as he headed back to the academy resting areas for the day.
