“Attack you?” Now it was Vereor’s turn to laugh. “Of course I do not know the true extent of your power but it is safe to say that it is well beyond mine. A vein attempt it would be to strike at you though not entirely unsatisfying. Let me, for the sake of conversation, see whether you’re as tough as you undoubtedly are.”
Here trouble really started for Vereor. Even though in the human world his strength would have been unbelievable he doubted that in this afterlife it wasn’t much so. However, there still were options, if he could just escape this hollow’s attention for a moment speed would allow him to get one or two shots in.
‘Here comes some dirty play’ Vereor thought and focussed. ‘It would be wisest to keep moving after striking him, taken that I’ll manage to. At least the chances of retalliation will shrink and compensate for my lack of practice in trying to kill something.’
Sliding into a crouched starting stance aimed somewhat to his opponent’s position it was all about waiting for the wind to come.
The creature had announced its presence by releasing a distinct pressure and even though Vereor had thusfar been oblivious to its existence he had noticed that he himself as well carried something of the kind. His own was much less apparent and he had the feeling that in a way he’d be able to hide his personal ‘signature’, reducing the hollows senses greatly and having him rely on hearing and vision only.
Of those two remaining main senses, vision was most keen. Not only did sound have a delay with it but it was also harder to locate a moving object’s arms and attacks. Even if they were audible they would still be hidden by the much louder sound of his steps.
Vision therefore was the thing to beat when forcing an opening in the faced defence and Vereor had just the plan for that.
Looking to their left by a small dust cloud Vereor saw that sufficient wind was coming and smiled at his unknown opponent. “You may want to watch closely, friend.” He spoke silently but audible and when the last word left his lips Vereor hid his riatsu as well as he could and set off into a run.
First he circled round the hollow in a rather large circle, obviously not posing a threat yet but using the trajectory to accelerate. As the first of the coming winds reached their location he immediately turned straight at his opponent and charged head-on.
In the fifty feet that lay between them Vereor reached his maximum velocity halfway trough and the wind had carried all the sand he excessively kicked up during his lap around now between them.
The cloud wasn’t enough to obscure sharp vision, of course, that Vereor knew all too well. However, what followed just might. Raising his right arm unsuspiciously and opening his hand at his current speed had it fill with the sharp sand right before he reached the Hollow.
The creature just stood where it had all the time and awaited him with the calm threatening expression on its face. One Vereor expected was just its regular and he didn’t bother for it much, he only hoped that he’d get somewhere with this and tightened his left hands grip around the sharp piece of bone he had already had with him before.
‘Two tries to obscure vision, one to attack. Here goes nothing..’
