Personality: Rei is a very level headed girl on the outside and appears quiet, but possesses that “silent strength”. She thinks things through before acting and has a very lax attitude, believing everything happens for a reason. She will speak her mind if she thinks strongly about something. When she doesn’t, her eyes speak for her. When in a tough spot, Rei remains calm—being comforted by her Zanpakuto. Rei dislikes violence but understands that she must fight to protect those close to her. Rei is an altruist who loves to make others happy, so she is willing to help anybody in need. Altogether, she is a kind person. Alternately, her personality is sometimes affected by her weary Zanpakutō, who is most often the one responsible for Rei’s bursts of courage and stubbornness.

Appearance: Rei has long raven-black hair and bangs that brush her thin, dark eyebrows. Rei’s eyes are crimson-red. She has smooth pale skin and a slim, averagely curved figure. The spirit dwelling inside Rei, however, sometimes even alters her appearance. When her spiritual pressure is unbalanced, Rei’s hair turns silvery and eventually completely white when the spirit takes over. Despite her youthful appearance, Rei is very mature.


Sealed Zanpakutō: Rei’s Zanpakutō appears as a normal sized katana when sealed. The blade is long and sleek. Its distinct features are its golden hilt and the five jewels embedded in it.

History/Background: Rei has no memory of her life in the Human World, which is why she changed the kanji for her name from “spirit” to “zero” later on. Because she died young, Rei was raised in the noble Wakahisa clan of the Soul Society for as long as she could remember. The Wakahisa clan was supposedly descended from the mighty spirit Amaterasu, whose powers passed down the generations through the females of the family. The powers remained dormant until manifesting in Rei herself. After Rei’s demon powers first awakened and she unconsciously destroyed a good portion of her clan, the Court Guards saw the bloodline as a threat and eliminated the rest of the Wakahisa family in hopes of ending the inheritance. This was the fall of one of the legendary noble clans. However, Rei’s mother had hidden her before the massacre, wanting the carrier of Amaterasu’s abilities to survive. Guided by her inner spirit spirit, Rei raised herself as an orphan for years until speculations calmed down. Finally, deciding she needed help in controlling her powers, Rei enrolled in the Shinigami Academy under the unknown surname of Miyako.

RP sample: “Alright, pair up!” the Shinigami instructor commanded loudly. There was a chorus of complaints as the group of students shuffled around to find partners. “Hey, quit your whining!” the 4th year Shinigami barked again. “I have better things to do than listen to you babies cry. Let’s go!”
Ugh, I don’t see why you waste time with these lame basics. The familiar voice in Rei’s head scowled in annoyance. Rei ignored the spirit within her and gripped the hilt of her wooden sword with both hands, standing steady as she faced her opponent. Her face was stoic as she tried to listen for the instructor’s order, but the spirit's complaining nagged at her mind.
Come on, if you let me take over for a while, you’ll graduate to the Court Squads in no time. You know you want to. Come now Rei, don’t you want to teach those creeps a lesson for what they did to your family? Don’t you want to show them our power?
Don’t you want to shut up? Rei snapped harshly to the spirit. Her grip on the wooden handle tightened. She was fighting the familiar drowsiness she felt whenever the spirit wanted to take over. She knew the spirit was right. But it was annoying times like this; times when she just wanted to give in, that made her decide to come to the Academy in the first place.
“Alright,” the instructor called. Rei and her opponent—who was completely unaware of the argument taking place in Rei’s head—bowed slightly in respect to each other. Then both girls lifted their swords to the ready.
“And…go!”
