PostSubject: A class For the Frightened   Sat Nov 20, 2010 2:51 pm

Class had always been something that Kaito loathed and it didn't help that Central 46 was forcing him to teach a class in order to regain the trust of some of the newer shinigami. Of course he had to agree, however there was much that he had planned to do and none of that consisted of teaching a class of newly grads including those who hadn't necessarily graduated in the first place. In truth, the Captain Commander had contemplated having someone else fill his spot only reconsidering because it would be an excellent opportunity to see the potential in the academy. Of course he had other things that he needed to see to, but he wouldn't mind placing this first after all he could find someone quite useful amidst those that showed to his class.

At the moment that aspect wasn't looking too promising; either people were frightened of the Captain Commander or they just didn't care, but in the end the wide spacious room was currently only occupied by himself. Lightly touching the hilt of his zanpakutou the tall young man suppressed his reiatsu even further. If was going to teach there was no point in causing his students to pass out due to an overdose on spiritual energy. Looking down at the chokuto resting in its hilt at its side the dark haired boy smiled meekly revealing, but a speck of true remorse for he had forgotten what it had been like to battle with everything on the line. In the past he failed to enjoy it, but now he missed the days when he was forced to actually lift his blade at another,

"Well, hopefully this class picks up..." he muttered cheerfully with a smile on his face, however whether the smile was only surface deep was another matter.

The door to the classroom opened, and a truly remarkable individual stepped (actually ducked) through. Remarkable probably wasn't the right word really, though. This individual was 9'5", and the top of his head just brushed the ceiling. His face was covered by a veil, and his hands were gloved. His feet were concealed by boots. The individual's giant appearance caused every student already in the room to turn and look at him with undisguised curiosity, awe, and in some cases, fear.

"I apologize, Sotaicho," came a voice from behind the veil. It was a strong voice, low, and serious. "My name is Masaru Arata. It appears my...size is drawing attention away from you. I will take a seat in the back so it does not happen again." That being said, the giant stepped surprisingly softly and nimbly through the sea of desks to the back of the room, where he was forced to push three chairs together in order to accommodate his large frame.

Everyone was now turning in their seats to watch Masaru. To them, he said, "Please, turn around and face the Sotaicho. He deserves your respect, and you would do well to realize this." His veiled face turned in the Sotaicho's direction, somehow conveying a sense of rapt attention.

A most interesting character stepped through the doorway immediately taking a seat near the back of the room despite the forlorn looks of his classmates. It seemed someone of actual potential had stepped through the doorway and Kaito expression softened at the heartfelt apology,

"My, my. Please don't apologize on my behalf...eh.." he said as he scratched his head nervously; or so it would seem,

"...this Sotaicho business is really too formal for me. Kindly refer to me as Kaito-Sempai or Sensei. These are far more suitable" he explained hurriedly to the class rambling as he went along.

He could tell that much of the class was still a bit leery of the young Captain Commander further providing proof that Soul Society as a whole had not indeed accepted the youngest leader of the Gotei 13 in the history of Soul Society. Inwardly, the act began to wear thin on his patience, but he cautioned himself in many ways reminding himself that each step must be taken cautiously when spinning a web or else everything will fall apart in the end. Calming his vexation with this thought his smile deepened,

"Masaru-kun, seeing as you are the most distinguished individual in the class I'd like you to come up here with me. I trust you're handy with a bokken?" he questioned while tossing the massive man a wooden training sword before picking up his own,

"Ah! Don't worry...I only wanted Masaur-kun to demonstrate how to parry a blow. After all this class is supposed to a forum focusing on the basics of zanjutsu and kido...although I'm sure Kaiyo and Ryouta would have been far better suited for this" he groaned near the end of his explanation.

Shrugging his shoulders he smiled as he looked at the veiled face of his pupil; he wanted to see whether this boy possessed the thing he had searched for in the Material World for 9 years.

"You flatter me, Sotai- ... Sensei," Masaru stood and deftly caught the sword thrown at him by Kaito. Unfortunately, because of his huge size, the standard size sword was more like a wazikashi to him. It looked a little ridiculous, like a toy in his massive gloved hands. Despite his outward coolness, Masaru was actually quite nervous. The Sotaicho had picked him out to perform in front of all these people. And he had referred to Masaru as "distinguished," indicating that he expected something from Masaru, like potential, or some level of skill.

Masaru moved through the sea of desks again so that he was standing up front with Kaito. He dwarfed the Sotaicho by a good three feet, and was at least twice as wide as the Sotaicho was. He gave the bokken a few experimental swishes. It was made of wood, and also shorter than his normal sword, so it moved through the air a lot quicker than Masaru expected, but he made a mental note of the fact to himself, so as not to miscalculate his parry.

"I am ready, Sensei!"
he said, assuming a defensive stance, the point of his sword held low- well, low for him. It was technically pointed at Kaito's midriff.

Junko was in attendance at the class, Her actual student robes and lack of chainmail made others forget who she was. Some guys behind her were talking about her and one had already been rejected. But she sat in her seat and watched the demonstration carefully. The Big Masaru was an opponent to be reckoned with even with the Sensei's spiritual pressure and strength.

When your big your big, when you are small your small.

Marsaru could very well just fall on Sensei and the fight would be over. With that thought she leaned back and smiled to enjoy the spar.

With a keen eye Kaito quickly scanned the massive being’s defensives and immediately identified the weaknesses that he could exploit; the difference between them was still far too great for there to be any cause for worry. The Captain Commander’s facial features quickly masked this examination with ease once again fixing an offhanded expression onto his face as he stared out towards Masaru,

“Good grief…two thinks wrong with your defense Masaru-kun…” he said as he smiled childishly taking two steps, each one painstakingly slow, yet somehow deceptively quick; the precision of a master swordsman relied not upon practice, but upon practicality,

“For starters, I told you I’m Kaito-sempai…secondly” he said as the smile on his face persisted, though now his crimson eyes shimmered with a cold look that enveloped the shinigami potential in front of him.

Wasting neither effort nor movement, Kaito hurled his body across the expanse between himself and Masaru literally closing the distance in a matter of a second before striking his own bokken down atop the defensively positioned bokken that Masaru was holding. Quickly and forcefully he pressed the opponent’s weapon into the ground sending small fragments of the floor into the air while the force produced a plume of dust that spread throughout the room. Gently, the advantaged Kaito rested the three fingers of his free hand against Arata’s chest,

“You see?” he asked as his feet touched the ground softly.

“Your second mistake is that you wielded a weapon much too small for you as if it were a regular sized katana in your hands. We both know that is not the case” he remarked with ironic smirk; there was no inkling of the cold sharpness in his pupils when he had attacked the student,

“…the main thing about zanjutsu is not practice or skill or natural talent although all three contribute to this main idea. The main concept about zanjutsu is about control” he continued as he released Masaru’s bokken from beneath his own and began to walk around the class,

“Any weapon can function like any other weapon in the hands of different people. A katana is never simply a katana, it could be wielded as a Tanto, a wakizashi, or even a nodachi depending upon whom is holding the blade”

Sighing he massaged his head; he didn’t really believe that he had a knack for teaching, but at this point he also didn’t have much choice so he pointed in a random direction towards one of the only smirking faces in the class (that’s you Junko-san),

“You…if you would be so kind as to join Masaru-kun up here. I’d like to see what your control of the sword looks like…” he said with a playful smirk; he knew exactly what he was doing when had seen this particular student walk into the room.

Things were finally getting a bit interesting,

“Spar until I say stop. Please, begin”

Shii slowly opened her eyes, letting her pupils get use to the dimness that had become her prison. Stretching her arms upwards while letting out a yawn. Mentally going over the things she had to do for the day. “Glad it’s only 6ish in the morning, means I can go for a run before class. Ugh that’s right, I have that weird class the big shots are making me attend. The letter was all formal looking and whatnot.” She remembered the letter that she had received a few weeks ago as she rolled over to look at her clock. Her eyes went wide with fear. “Shit! My alarm didn’t go off, yet again. I’m so freaking late. They are going to kill me.” She mumbled loudly as she threw the sheets back and sprang out of bed. She got dressed in a blink of an eye, this time not forgetting to grab her knives off the table.

Shii flew down the steps and dashed off to the classroom, good thing for her, her directions didn’t entirely suck. She stopped just outside the classroom, trying to get her breath back. After a few seconds of panting and trying to breathe correctly she decided to muster up the courage and walk in the room. “Crap, sounds like a sparring match is going on.” She thought to herself as she tried to walk in the classroom as discreetly as possible. She spotted a seat in the back rather quickly and made a bee line straight for it. “If I don’t say anything maybe he won’t see me, yes that’s how it will happen.” She got to the seat and sat down and stared at the desk for a few minutes. Finally after what seemed to be an eternity she looked up to see what was going on up in front of the class.

She was kinda shocked and surprised to see the events unfold in front of her. “What, is he really teaching swordsman work inside a classroom? Isn’t that an outside activity?” She asked herself as she took her attention of that and looked around the room. Her focus ended on a large figure sitting across from herself. “Wow he is a big one, how did he manage to even get inside here? For that fact how does he get inside the dooms? I really need to stop starring, but I just can’t bring myself to do so. This is bad, it’s like watching something that’s shiny, and one’s attention can’t just be ripped away. Well unless the teacher comes and on that note back to watching the action in the front of the class.” Shii quickly returned her gaze to the teacher and the pupil.

Sakumara had stayed up late the night before reading his book till about three so as he sat in his seat waiting for class to start he fell asleep. He woke up to the sound of a boom at the front of the class. Their sensei was explaining how weapons are different when wielded in different hands and how his students defenses were flawed. When the teacher picked a random student to spar against Marasu he woke up a little more and watched.

He smirked at the thought of their teacher having a match inside a classroom, but even though he’d never seen the sotiacho before he could almost see power hidden underneath his monotonous face. It wasn’t reiatsu that he could feel, it was more like something you could sense. His presence almost radiated power, something that was there, but not really there, like a specter, you can tell it’s there, but when you go to specifically see or search for it it’s not there.

"Oh no"

This was the first thing that she thought. Without her armor, and well such a massive opponent...

She did as she was told and got up on the platform, and not only that but she would not have the double edged broadsword that she usually practiced with to use. A fish out of water as it was. She picked up a training katana, a short one, as the big one was sure to use strength as his sticking point. She decided that deflections were only possible.

She stood, and she lowered her stance and thus her center of gravity, If she wanted to play this her way, Masaru would strike first.

Kaito didn’t actually glance at the door when two newcomers entered in late, but of course the “perception” of shinigami allowed him to detect their presences down to the most miniscule detail without so much of a glance in their direction. Truthfully there were only a handful out of the class that had any potential and even out of those few, it seemed as though there might not be anyone with the “skill” he was looking for. As he stared with keen eyes watching as the smirking student made what looked to be a feeble attack whether out of fear or uncertainty. While all this was taking place, the Captain Commander sat in one of the seats reserved for students of course drawing the attention of the more easily distracted students, however his eyes remained trained on the two blue and white clothed students in front of him. Even as his crimson pupils flicked from one student to the next his mind pondered more pertinent matters, matters he dare not utter to any other shinigami,

“Surely, I will find one amongst these fledglings…Soul Society can’t have become that dull” he thought distantly to himself as he recalled how easy it had been to deflect the bokken of the abnormally large student.

Of course that was to be expected, but he couldn’t sense anyone with an exceptionally interesting amount of reiatsu which was really disappointing to him; in fact it was actually beginning to strain him to continue holding his own power back by so much. He longed to move as he wished, although what he wanted to do would take time and careful planning since the Gotei 13 as well as Soul Society as a whole possessed individuals that would be a nuisance if they were to get a hint of what the young shinigami was thinking as he rested his chin in his palm with a playful smile. Deciding that it was time to address to the two late attendants, Kaito spoke in a clear, lucid tone that rolled off his handsome lips with gracefulness,

“Now, I understand at times I it can be hard to follow customs…” he said without turning to face the two behind him although the majority of the glance stole awkward glances which was the effect that Kaito had been going for,

“…but please. Next time you decide to be late, try not to enter in so noticeably. You may incur the wrath of some rather harsh individuals” he added this time noticeably allowing his impenetrable mask to meld into the equivalent of a frown; in truth he actually cared very little for this ruse, but he maintained it with ingenuity.

Masaru saluted his opponent with his...well, wazikashi, he guessed. That was what Kaito-sempai expected of him, he was certain, after Kaito-sempai's speech. He would have to adapt and show the Sotaicho that he was going to be a very productive and capable member of the Gotei 13. Normally, Masaru's attacks and fighting style emphasized his strength. However, with this short a blade, he was going to have to go more for speed, precision, and finesse. Hopefully he could pull it off.

"I respect you as a fellow Shinigami-in-training, and so I will not hold back, and I hope you will do the same,"
Masaru said in his low, serious voice. Masaru gave his bokken a couple more experimental swishes, and decided to take the initiative. He stepped closer to his opponent so that he would be within striking distance and began to circle her. His eyes watched hers, and every slightest movement she made, looking for a sign of aggression, or of decisiveness. Nothing. She was waiting for him, sizing him up even as he was sizing her up.

Very well. Masaru struck suddenly, with brutal speed, and without warning. His "wazikashi" came down at his opponent's sword arm, aimed at the wrist. But just as the blade passed the intended target, he changed its direction to strike horizontally, in an attempt to leave the rest of her body open. At this point, he would step in and stab her unprotected shoulder, which, had their swords been real, would've rendered her incapable of continuing the fight, at least with that arm.

Junko was taken aback from the speed of which Marasu struck. She would have thought him to be abit more lumbering. Either way she had resolved upon this moments before he struck, 'If i dodge backward i will still be in his reach and he will be out of mine, there fore i must dodge sideways or forward. So junko did exsactly that. Ducking low to the ground and rolling over her head and to Marsaru's left side coming up on one knee, and stabbed her training zanpaktou at Marsaru's Knee.

Masaru's stab hit empty air as his opponent dodged to his left, rolling over and coming up to aim a stab at his left knee. His only option was to take quick steps backward to avoid the stab. He would've jumped, normally, but the ceiling prevented him from doing that. What he needed to do was keep her at bay; he did have the advantage of reach after all. Then again...that wasn't how one was supposed to use a wazikashi. He would have to choose between two strategies. And then he thought of something.

"Kaito-sempai?" he asked. "May I use any and all environmental objects to my advantage if I see fit?" As he said this, he kept his bokken out and ready to defend, watching his opponent warily for movement.

Junko was not suprised when he dodged... He was fast enough to get the jump on her a few moments ago, but when he started talking to Kaito-sempai she struck. Dashing forward she uttered under her breath as she gripped her sword with both hands.

"Hado 1 Sho"

She then swung upwards from her belt on the right up past her left shoulder (upward across the body swing). Junko released the kido when she assumed the moment of contact would occur which would in theroy nearly double or triple her striking power... but agianst a target of mass and size of Masaru, it would probably just feel proportional to someone of his size and strength hitting him.

Though Masaru would never have done the same, he had expected Junko to attack him during a moment of "distraction." Her bokken came up past her left shoulder up at Masaru's right. He had to commend her for her strategy; adding the kido to her attack would certainly make it more effective. It was too bad he could do the same thing. Masaru brought his bokken down vertically to block, uttering, "Hado#1: Sho!" as he did so.

This, combined with the force of gravity, as well as his own massive strength, would make his strike even more powerful than normal strikes. He hoped that the resulting reverberation would numb Junko's arm for a moment, and in that moment of weakness, he would pounce and take his opportunity to attack.

Junko was taken aback, He had used exsactly the same strategy has her... As their Bokken came into contact, their respective kido's nearly cancelled each other out, and as she was pushed down into a crouch by the blow, it was intentional as she wanted to absorb the strike with her legs as well as her arms...

"Bakuto 1 Sai!"

Junko said this kidou as she jumped out backwards onto her back one of her hands coming free and pointing it roughly at Masaru. She didn't hang around on her back long. She scrambled to her feet, flippign her feet under her and standing in a combat ready pose, only one hand on her Bokken.

"Kaito-sempai?" the rather gargantuan man addressed Kaito, who looked on with a faint hint of interest in his eyes, "May I use any and all environmental objects as I see fit?"

Just as the dark haired Captain Commander was about to address the question the female struck ruthlessly making the ever plotting shinigami to look at her with renewed interest; he hadn't expected for such a tenacious fighter to be amongst the students. In a small sense she had drawn his attention, but soon it would be time for the next lesson to begin. When they exchanged kidou techniques Kaito sighed and suddenly he was no longer sitting watching the escalating battle instead his image appeared seemingly from no where as he flexed a small amount of his spiritual pressure negating the last attack that the girl had launched. As the reiatsu in the air dissipated upon being sealed Kaito looked first at the large man then the girl before speaking in a low serious tone,

"I'd like both of you to stay after class. I do believe this was an exercise in using only your bokkens...I I think you two failed in that respect, no?" he asked as he began educating the class upon the theory of kido and its uses until finally the time reached when he let the majority of the students go.

However he was expecting two forms to remain seated in their chairs or else they would be in quite bit of trouble.

"Please accept my Sincere Apologies" said Junko and she went back to her seat, where the guys were no longer talking about her.

As the class ended and the other students cleared up, Junko was sitting in her seat, not sitting strait up, but not exsactly slouching, it was almost confortable... She waited for intructions and hoped it would not end in a swift execution.

Masaru bowed his head in both apology and shame. In the heat of battle, he had lost sight of his objective. "My deepest apologies, Kaito-sempai. I make no excuses for my behavior, and will continue to strive to fulfill orders in a more than satisfactory manner!" That being said, he took his seat in the back of the class and took notes on the rest of the lecture attentively and diligently.

When the class ended, he remained in his seat, prepared for whatever it was the Sotaicho had in mind, whether it be punishment or praise.

(OOC: Seeing as how it seems the other person isn't posting I shall resume this thread anew)

Kaito stared at the two remaining students with a light smile on his face though his eyes shown with some other emotion. It was curious even to himself, but he wasted no time trying to analyze himself while there two very interesting individuals standing right before him. He remained standing in front of the desks before finally speaking to the two "mischievous students",

"I do believe in the idea of redemption though for most it's quite hard to attain, but in your cases I've had interest in you two for awhile now" he explained with the corner of his lips curled into a misleading grin, "I'd like to give you two an assignment and do realize that it is dangerous enough that i wouldn't give it to any others besides you two" he explained.

"I wonder whether it's even necessary at this point...they aren't ready, not now...but perhaps" he contemplated for a few moments before continuing.

His decision was made and he hoped it would yield the results that he was looking for, "I'd like you two to go into the Material World to a place called Okinawa, Japan" he spoke now as his eyes seemed to glimmer with a strange energy, "...there's a specific hollow that I'd like you to hunt down. You'll know for it will have more reiatsu than you've ever felt in a hollow before" he said with a slight smirk.

"Do you accept?"

Masaru was shocked; not only was he not going to be punished for his inability to follow orders, but he was actually being ordered to go on a mission. For the Sotaicho. It was almost too much joy for even his large frame to contain; he had to fight tears of joy from affecting his voice as he spoke. "I eagerly accept, Kaito-sempai! I am ready to face whatever challenge you set for me, with every fiber of my being straining for success!"

His response was, despite being a bit stuffy in terms of language, probably the most exuberant Masaru had ever been. For the first time in his life, somebody had actually seen him as someone to be counted on. This was more than just a mission; it was a chance for him to prove to everyone that he was capable of great things; and that the Sotaicho thought so too.

Junko was in a percarious situation, she had not been away from here armor, for a day the entire time she was dead...

If she were to leave, she would have to pick up at least the chainmail, and wear it under her robes...

"Yes sir, but I will need to stop by my room before departure..."

She bowed allittle, hoping for her request to be granted, but not assuming anything...

(sorry its not longer... i didnt have much time...)

(OOC: I guess I didn't make it clear. You guys can go on with the thread any way you want if you still wish to continue. I can make the plot for you if you want. Just let me know what you want to do.)

Kaito smiled as the girl asked to stop by her room and even before he spoke the cautious shinigami knew that he had no intentions of allowing the girl to prepare for their adventure; what would be the point if she was ready for it?

"Sorry, I think this calls for something a little more drastic than you're understanding. I need you two to go on this mission..." he paused as his eyes bore into the two students before him, his eyes seemed to be trying to devour them as he looked upon them waiting for an slight hesitation in their eyes, "...right now actually"

Moving past them he placed a hand on each of their shoulders with a more derisive smile as he looked straight ahead of him. The gears in his mind already plotting the next move, but he made sure to pay attention to all the pieces in front of him; this was the power of Kaito Saruwatari. Pressing gently before releasing them the Captain Commander walked until he reached the entrance of the classroom as the dull redness of the sun outlined his figure against the passing afternoon haze. Half turning to look upon the students he was "testing" his expression was one of curiosity as well as sincere kindness as a few locks of his black hair fell over his face.

"Kindly dispense of this hollow...it's not often that rookies receive missions like this. Please don't let me down"

(OOC: The PC that I had in mind is still prepared to do the mission with you guys if you're still interested)

((Hola Kaito, I suppose it might be sad to say this, but I havent seen Masaru around in awhile but i guess... Ehh, i dont know, I will see how Masaru replies if we still want to continue...))

Junko was guided by the captain commander, a strange sight to see him reach up to place a hand on her shoulder, and down to her shoulder... but the social behavior was not what bothered her, "Frak, I won't be very secure on this mission will I", Junko shifted, in the shoes, in her robes, as if unconfortable.

But she gulped and took it, it was not fear of engagement with the hollow that she feared... but fear of engagement without her armor...

(ooc: i got your pm kaito- and i’d be happy to join your squad. idk why you didn’t get my pm)

Masaru nodded his head gravely. "It shall be done as quickly as possible." He drew his sword and looked out to where Kaito was pointing. "If there is no more to be said, I would like permission to engage the Hollow and bring it to justice." Dimly, he registered that the Captain-Commander was actually touching his shoulder. It didn't matter. What did matter was his performance in this specially assigned mission. He would succeed with flying colors, or die trying. Simple as that.
