The sky clear and the day warm Statara was standing in a long line of fellow soul reapers, all in uniform, all of them shouting various commands and firing different coloured spells of different types. She struggled to understand what they were saying, with no briefing beforehand she faced her target clueless.

"erm... number six... FIREBALL!!!!!!!!"

Most of the academy paused and stared, clearly nothing had happened blushing deeply she covered her face with one hand. as everyone went back to their own business, the soul reaper to her right began speaking to her...

Kuro was walking through the academy. It was one of the only places left in the Seireitei that was neutral to the noble war. He heard the shouts of the new students in the kido range and ventured over to see how they were doing. Many were doing less than they thought acceptable. He could see the disappointed looks on their faces. He thought back to the first time he'd been in kido class. The memory made him cringe. Suddenly he was jerked out of memory lane by a shout from one of the female students trying to cast kido. Her attempt was crude without focusing her energy and she hadn't used a proper incantation or even the spell's name. Maybe the war has affected this place more than I first thought if they're failing to teach the students properly before practical application.

Kuro noticed that all of the students were eyeing the girl that had just shouted. Remembering his own embarassments in the academy, he shunpoed to her side and tried to give her some support.

"We've all got to start somewhere. Don't feel dishearted after one failure. If you want some asisstance, I am willing to help."

Statara realised the soul reaper stood next to her wasnt there a second ago she paused quite confused at first, though she quickly remembered seeing kaiyo san doing that before.
Statara had already gotten over being embarrased about the obserd notion that shouting fireball would actually do something. She glared up at the tall soul reaper stood close to her. at first she was confused because she couldnt see his zanpakuto, but she assumed he was from squad 2 because she was told that they like hiding things.
"so you can help me?"
Statara smiled, she was genuinely glad that someone was here to help, all the other academy students seemed to be ignoring her, possibly because they all knew she had been in soul society 2 days and had the knowledge of such. At least a peasant would even know what a soul reaper is.
She looked him up and down while she thought he wasnt looking, blushing when she realised he was.
"so i err..."
She had her hand on the back of her head trying to cover her embarrasment up.
"...you can teach me magic?"
Letting out a giggle, Statara half knew it wasnt called magic.

Kuro calmly smiled at her referecne of magic. "Yes, I guess that kido spells can seem like that. But they're actually a set of spiritual arts we perform by using our spirit energy. Realizing that fact is the first part of learning how to use them. You have to tap into your spirit power and cast the spell correctly."

Kuro noticed that some of the other students that had been having trouble were starting to look over towards them and listen to his explanation. His face grew a little embarassed as he did not like to be the center of attention. "Ahem...aside from tapping into spirit power, you also have to have a knowledge of the spell's name, and in more complicated kidos' cases, you'll also need the incantation."

Kuro glanced sideways down the range and spotted an untouched target. His spirit energy began to flow as he finished his introductary explanation. "By learning how to use your power and obtaining knowledge of the wide variety of spells available," he pointed his left index finger at the target, "...you'll soon be able to perform kido spells like this. Hado #4: Pale Lightning!"

A concentrated bolt of light blue lightning burst from Kuro's finger and sailed down the kido range. It penetrated the target, leaving a small hole through the center of it. A few of the students clapped while others started to try and imitate Kuro's action. He turned back to Statara and put on another innocent smile. "Learning kido is hard work, I had difficulty with it myself at first. But now it has become one of my favorite supporting actions in battle. Why don't you try now? First try to release your spirit energy."

Statara paused, she had been here 2 days. she had a fight, she knew what a zanpakuto was and had an idea of what soul reapers actually do.
As for spirit energy, she had barely even heard of it. she was told by research division she had quite a lot of it bt thats as far as her infantile knowledge of soul society took her.

"erm... release my spirit energy?"

She though for a second to draw her sword. but she didnt quite recall the soul reaper helping her usibg his, she simply held her hand up, pointing at half burnt target in the near distance. the whole file of academy students now observing quietly, expecting her to fail again.

Kuro reached out a hand and caught hers as she raised it pointing down the range. His face became a little more serious as he explained what he had meant. "Don't try to cast a spell like I did yet. Just sit down right here." He sighed and flopped down on the ground underneath them and patted the space across from him for her to sit at. "If you have a lot of spirit power, it shouldn't be hard to draw it out. I first learned about mine when it grew to the point that it bubbled out of me whenever I got excited."

Kuro let a thin smile come back to his lips as he remembered his troubles in the rukongai. "I want you to close your eyes and try to focus on any feelings you've ever felt that your power responed to. When your power responds, you'll start to recognize the feeling and soon it will become as easy as flexing a muscle to draw it out."

Kuro folded his legs and assumed a meditative position. A moment later, a small burst of reiatsu surged out of him that surprised a few of the observing students. He opened his eyes and stopped the energy flow with another smile. "Now you try. Just try to relax and focus."

Blushing from the contact her face grew bright red again, she then sat down as he did. Statara had listened intently, she truly wanted to understand how it all worked, putting aside words she didnt know such as rukongai, she did as he said. sitting down cross legged desparately trying to ignore the horse shoe of surrounding students.
She tried to think of such
an occurance.
"I fought kaiyo, the vice captain of squad 11 last night, during our fight i felt an energy, a prescence."
She envisioned her battle, recalling it as if it were happening now to photographic accuracy.
"I was weak.. i was normal.... but what happened to make the power emerge. Im pretty sure that must have been spirit power... but where? where did it come from?"

Statara stood, facing her target intently, she turned her head to look down at the soul reaper helping her.

"can i get a name please?"

Kuro stood up and took a spot a few feet from Statara. "That's good. That power was your spirit power. It comes from down in your very soul. Now we're going to start with the most basic spell. Focus on the feeling of that strength you felt with Kaiyo and repeat this spell name while aiming your hands at me, Hado #1: Thrust." Kuro bent his knees and took a steady stance facing Statara.

"I am Kuro Akarui, a soul who grew up in the darkest parts of the rukongai outside of these city walls. I currently am the 4th seat of the 2nd squad. At your service." Kuro gave a quick bow before resuming his stance. "Now try to cast that spell, Hado number 1, Thurst."

"Statara Keyigh. I was human two days ago. Now.... i have a new destiny."

Statata took stance her finger pointing straight for kuros chest.
Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes. opening them again she was ready.

" Hado One THRUST!"

The air around Statara swelled, nothing had happened. She wasnt surpised, kuro seemed to look slightly disappointed. Not a peep heard from the students around them.

"During that fight, i had nothing, only by accident did i discover how i release power. That power, i think is what your talking about."

Everyone seemed shocked as she unsheathed her zanpakuto. Kuro stood patient undisturbed,
a voice echoed within Statara, i cant beleive your doing this girl...

She stood firm holding it ahead of her still facing kuro, slowly she brought it to her inner arm. before letting out a scream slashing a cut into herself.
The adreniline soured and with that her spiritual pruessure.skyrocketed knocking back the spectators gently into a more alert stance. the air around her frantically circling her, she put.her zanpakuto back in its case immediately raising her left.index finger. The Purple haired soul reaper ahead of her even still unmoved in expression qnd position was if anything a little bit intruigued.

Her voice reigned high,
"Hado One, THRUST!!!"

Light blazed from her fingertips.

Kuro smiled as he was hit square in the chest with an invisible force that sent him skidding backwards. If he had not been standing ready for it, he would have been knocked off his feet. He grinned as the observing class all gasped, surprised that Statara had been able to cast so fast.

"I hope you can learn to harness your power without having to cut yourself every time, but I have to admit it was an effective method to motivate your energy. Now try it again and concentrate on the feeling of that energy. I want you to remember how it felt and learn how to bring it out without an outer stimulus. You're doing great, and you sure have all of these educated stuck ups impressed. Cast at me again."

Statata paused to try and make sense of what happened, as her adrenaline started to drop she began to feel a sting where she had cut, she needed to put that aside, holding her breath her spirit energy remained steady, this time her arms steady she focused. she closed her eyes and concentrated still holding her breath. for some reason no matter how much she tried her spirit pruessure couldnt rise.
She opened her eyes and without hesitation she spoke with clarity.

"Hado one, Thrust."

Her fingertip glowed, the force this time was clearly a lot more stable.

Kuro was knocked on his back by the force that hit him, sending him flying back. The onlookers gave a bit of polite applause as Kuro got back to his feet. He smiled again and gave a nod of approval in Statara's direction.

"You're getting the hang of it. I'll leave it this for today, but I'll be comming around again soon enough. Keep practicing and study up on the kidos in the library."

Kuro bowed with respect at Statara and shunpoed out of the kido range. As he returned to the outer walkways of the academy he grinned to himself. It seemed like there was at least a few hard working students in this school. He chuckled in anticipation about their future. They might be allies or enemies depending on where they went after graduating, but Kuro would respect them either way. They were all still fellow shinigami.

Statara was the happiest she had been since she could remember. She had been taught properly, and with that she thought not only could soul reapers be friendly but they can help, even show they care. Completely different to the spirits heard of in stories.
a pause of hesatation, she looked down at her arm...
"aagh damnitt!!!"
clearly she had realised the deep in her arm. and with no idea what to do next she quickly bandaged up her arm with some torn off material from her top. it was the best she could do.
Walking towards the exit, she pondered what squad she would want to be in or even what there specialties were.
a stray academy student was stood jaw wide open staring at Stataras breasts, a smile beamed from her face as she pointed her finger right at his head.

"Hado One.....
