Kaino walks through the Soul Academy towards his kidou class. He cannot help but think about how today is going to be filled with even more hours of boring kidou practice. The instructor seemed to be intent on making them completely hate kidou. Every day they would practice the same kidou, in the same way, with the same results. This had been going on for months and Kaino was tired of it. However today was different, as Kaino walked into the classroom he saw that there was a new teacher standing at the front of the class. This new teacher looked up from the papers on the desk and spoke, “Ahh finally, it seems our last student is here, so we may begin. All of you take your Zanpakutos and follow me.” As he spoke Kaino stood, utterly stunned in the doorway. All that he could think of was what had happened to the old teacher, and as the class began to file past him, he remained still. Finally the teacher approached and said, “Your teacher has taken leave to aid another class, in his stead I am here, now if you would please get out of the doorway and follow your classmates I have a class to teach.
The class climbs to the top of one of the nearby cliffs before the instructor stops them. He then takes all of their zanpakutos and ties large rocks to them. Then he tells them all to stand near the edge of the cliff, and, after making sure all of them know of the crawling rope Kidou, throws each of their zanpakuto’s off the cliff, saying, “Now each of you must catch your own zanpakuto using the Bakudo #4, Crawling Rope, and then bring it back up to the top of the cliff. Get going.”
Kaino watched as his Zanpakuto went over the side of the cliff. He saw as all of his classmates began to shout the incantation, attempting to save their zanpakutos, however right after the instructor finished Kaino focused his spirit power and spoke, “ Bakudo #4; Crawling ropes.” Kaino focused as much strength as he could into the kidou, wiling it to catch his zanpakuto, and by some miracle it did, barely managing to catch up to the zanpakuto. Though he had managed to catch his zanpakuto, the weight of the large rock was making it very hard to lift the sword and on top of that he had to remain focused on the rope. Kaino managed to lift his sword about ten feet closer to him before he lost his footing and was sent down to a knee. This shattered his concentration and broke his kidou, letting his zanpakuto go into a free fall down the cliff again.
